NBC10 lets another anchor go, Dawn Timmeney was not renewed

POSTED: Wednesday, December 19, 2012, 8:52 AM

NBC 10 sheds another anchor.

Dawn Timmeney, who anchored the 4 and 5:30 p.m. newscast worked her last day at the station on Friday.

Timmeney, who worked at NBC10 for nearly 12 years, was not renewed by the station, which we reported recently had also chosen not to renew Tim Lake.

NBC 10 news director Anzio Williams emailed staff another generic statement about a veteran staffer's departure, as he did after Lake's final newscast.

"In her 12 years at NBC 10 Dawn Timmeney has worn many hats in different dayparts. Please join me in wishing Dawn the very best as she moves forward.

Timmeney did not return a request for comment.

I can't believe they got rid of both Tim and Dawn. Tim was screwing up a lot in his reporting, so I guess I can understand that one, but Dawn. She was so real and you could really relate to her. She never seemed like she was faking her reaction to reports. Tracy Davidson is the one that should have gone. She is so fake and hard to relate to. I have found myself watching ABC more and more, especially because of what The Today Show did to Ann Curry. I can't stand Savannah Guthrie, so I watch GMA in the morning. Now without Dawn, Tim, and Terry Ruggles retiring, I may start watching 6ABC for my news in the afternoon and at night. I watch 6ABC at noontime now. I will have to really think about this because I do believe that Hurricane in the best weather reporter in the area.

wcau always treats their talent like meat, they show them no love and they are forced to work in horrid conditions, i liked dawn and she has had her fair share of grief from this station, let's hope either kyw or wpvi of wtxf picks here up because she is a fixture in the city and it would be a sin to let her leave like that

I can't tell the difference from one newscaster to another. If you lined them all up and said match the names to the faces I would fail. I have too much to do in my life to remember who reads the news. Unless a face is remarkable (Adam Joseph- he's a cutie) or around forever, Jim Gardner, I see them as talking heads. As long as they can pronounce Schuykill, Shackamaxon & Tacony Palmyra, as long as they enunciate properly, it doesn't matter to me who reads the teleprompter. They could use a computer programed voice for all I care.

el biotcho (and your 100 monikers): listen to BT like you calling someone out for using the same stuff when all you do is make reference to caucasian or white. But in typical biotch fashion, you point fingers. And you ASSume I am white. You'd be surprised DB. And at least I am not a p*&&^ who gets people's comments deleted.

Deuce Bag - funny that plant life such as you with comments that may fall short of a 5-th grader would call ANYONE out. Get back to the grille, little person.

The person they should get rid of is Renee Chenault-Fattah. She flubs every line she reads and has to give a pathetic little comment after every story. Do we really need to hear her say "That's a shame" and shake her head after every sad story? Timmeney wasn't bad and deserves to stay.

Let's face it guys, NBC10 has to get younger (and hotter). They watch 6ABC make a smooth interjection of younger (and hotter) on air talent and the see the buzz Sheena has brought back to the station and had to move as well. They'll bring in more age 30 newscasters and traffic reporters and then see their ratings tick upward. Nature of the business, Dawn will land on her feet...in Topeka, Kansas.

It's NBC so they're probably going to mirror the kind of people they have at MSNBC. So look for them to hire John Street to be an anchor and Rob Parker (the RG III racist guy) to do sports and Jim Matthews (Chris' brother) for commentary.

These stations dump anchors, weather and sports people on a whim hoping to pick up a couple tenths in rating points. Only Action News which has ruled the roost forever is stable. I think the trend is pick up hot female anchors with boob jobs like Fox News. As long as they can read a teleprompter and look like a stripper they have a good chance of getting hired.

I don't get the whole local news programs thing. Why do we need somebody to read the news to us? I read the news online early in the day and then when I stumble onto a news broadcast they are telling me what I already know. Local news programs are literally a waste of time. Unless of course you can't read.

Good job NBC10 and Anzio! Please bring some flavor to the air, too many stiff blondes on your channel anyway. However, dump the fake Renee Chenault-Fattah. No one of any race likes her. When is her $700k/ contract up? Show some real cajones and get rid of her.

TV executives are prone to make moves by fiat and whim. After they lose the next rating book to Channel 6, they'll probably fire more anchors who have nothing to do with why nobody watches them.

You people can't all be that stupid, can you? Clearly Mr. Williams (black man) is purging all of the white, experienced talent. They'll be replaced with blacks. He's already grabbed some inexperienced black female weathercaster. I don't care...I don't watch. I guess he knows his demographics. Philly is a black city.

They also just hired a new female weather person, so one of the existing group of 5 is likely heading out the door soon also. Terry, then Tim, then Dawn. Awful decisions being made there.

I was not a fan of DT. I remember one time sitting in a hair salon while she was in the chair next to me. If you could hear her go on and on about her "celebrity" status and how important her hair was to her job! I thought I would be ill. She needed to get over herself. Now they can get rid of Renee. She's never there anyway!!

It appears to me that NBC is not making the decisions to get rid of on-air talent. The timing being what it is the decisions are most probably coming from the dumb heads at Comcrap. There are no longer journalists reporting the news on TV, but just pretty to look at no talents. The people who are being dismissed were good reporters, they knew how to report the news, now you just have talking heads who read what is in front of them. I would venture to say that very few could find Syria, Iraq, Iran on a map. I used to watch NBC10, not anymore. Why should I, there is no longer real reporting going on.

Who watches the local news any more? There is no actual news reporting going on. How many stories about a blind boy with syphilis who had his wheelchair stolen can you watch? The rest of the time is spent trying to scare people with new weather buzz words like thundersnow.

One blonde down. How many more left to go? Philadelphia TV stations really need to take a good hard look at who they hire to bring the weather and news to the public. There are plenty of talented people out here not all of them have blonde hair and blue eyes.

Wonder who's next? Just read last night that Nefertiti Jaquez, who used to be on 29 a few years back, will be a reporter on Channel 10. This station is really brutal, the way it gets rid of anchors and reporters. I guess Dawn's "Pet Project" will be gone with the wind too, I enjoyed that tremendously.

Dawn Timmeney was the best part of NBC10, by far. Can't believe they did not re sign her. A bad move. Aside from being a relaxed but professional anchor, it helped that she was and is smokin hot. She will not be without a job for long. Anzio = dunce.
