Julianne Hough apologizes for ‘blackface’ Halloween costume

Not every costume is a great idea. Although Dancing With The Stars champ Julianne Hough’s costume was assembled with the best intentions, the backlash was fierce.

On Friday night, the actress was photographed heading to a Halloween party with a group of friends.  Together they were characters from Netflix’s 2013 hit series, Orange is the New Black. The 25-year-old and company wore orange jumpsuits and each dressed impeccably as a memorable character from season one. The star was dressed as Suzanna “Crazy Eyes” Warren, an African-American character on the series played by Uzo Aduba. Along with the orange jumpsuit, Hough used makeup to darken her face's skin color, which caused a huge stir among the media.

Upon receiving much criticism, Hough took to Twitter on Saturday to apologize for anyone she had offended. She wrote:

"I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize."
