By now, we're well aware of the bad blood between New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and the cast of MTV's Jersey Shore.

But it's not Christie's outspoken criticism of the reality TV series that moved Jenni "JWoww" Farley to call him "retarded" Monday night.

It was the governor's recent appeal against gay marriage that lead JWoww to tell a TMZ camera person, while she was out to dinner with partner-in-crime Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, that Christie was a "disgrace to Jersey just like we were!"

The reality star was alluding to Christie's previous commentary about how shows like Jersey Shore and Bravo's Real Housewives of New Jersey are poor reflections on the state. In May, Snooki, JWoww and Deena Cortese met Christie at a ribbon cutting ceremony in Seaside Heights: the awkward encounter captured on video.

After receiving backlash for using the term "retarded" callously, JWoww took to her Twitter Tuesday to apologize for her remarks. However, she remains firm in her sentiments against Christie given his stance on same-sex marriage.

"Caught off guard last night and said things I normally don't say," she shared with her followers. "I find it disgusting people are still against gay marriage. So because of that I called Chris Christie a name which wasn't appropriate."

"I do find him disgusting and judgmental. I'm for gay equality," she added. "So I apologize for my choice of words but I do not apologize for how I feel towards him."

The third season of Snooki and JWoww returns Tuesday, Oct. 22.
