Most people will read the headline of this blog post and immediately think, "Uh, duh." But Anderson Cooper has officially come out, via longtime friend Andrew Sullivan's blog.
"The fact is, I'm gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud," Cooper wrote in an email. He goes on to say that while he is happy with himself, he does not plan on becoming an activist.
Sullivan was prompted to ask Cooper after reading Mark Harris' excellent piece in last week's Entertainment Weekly about a new breed of "out" celebrity.
In May 2007, Out magazine ran a piece by Village Voice gossip columnist Michael Musto, about openly gay celebrities who refused to come out to the public. Cooper was on the cover alongside Jodie Foster, who talked about her longtime girlfriend publicly for the first time shortly after the story ran.
While this is not a shocker, Anderson Cooper privacy should be respected. I do not think he ever hid it, he just never thought it was an issue, nor has he ever made it an issue.— BigE- In fact gays enjoy the same protections as everyone else as mandated by the Constitution.— freesia
