After 21 years, Alison Sweeney to leave ‘Days of Our Lives’
On Tuesday, Days of Our Lives star Alison Sweeney made a big announcement on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. She revealed to the studio audience and viewers that after 21 years, she would be leaving the popular daytime soap opera.
Sweeney first entered the show as character Samantha “Sami” Brady” at the age of 16. The Emmy winner and married mom of two isn’t just a soap star, she has also played host on The Biggest Loser since 2007. Now the 37-year-old is refocusing and looking to spending more time with her family. "I have never had more than a two-week vacation [since I began Days] in that whole time," she told Ellen DeGeneres. “My daughter just turned five and my son is nine, and I just want to be with them and enjoy my last year.”
Sweeney will continue to appear on Days for the remainder of the year. She did not specify how or when her character would exit the show. "I mean it would be awesome to have some kind of happy ending, but then I also think Sami probably deserves some sort of very twisted like ‘Breaking Bad’ ending,” she laughed.
