Paul McCartney heading back to Budokan

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY is heading back to Japan's fabled Budokan venue almost 50 years after he and his Beatles bandmates became the first rock group to appear there in 1966. The rocker has added a date at the massive Tokyo landmark as part of his Out There world tour, alongside two other sold out gigs in the city, on 21 May (14). Announcing the news, he says, "It's very exciting to be returning to the Budokan because it is a very special place and was the first place we played in Japan. "There was a lot of controversy at the time but I now know that it is a regular venue for a lot of people. But for me it has a very special place in my memory." And he'll be hoping his upcoming gig there will last a little longer than his last concert at the Budokan - the Beatles famously could only play 11 songs at the 1966 concert.
