So much for couch-jumping. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are getting divorced, according to an exclusive report from People mag.
"This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family," Holmes's attorney Jonathan Wolfe told People. "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."
Cruise's rep also released a statement: "Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy to work this out."
The celeb uber-couple have been married since 2006, after a whirlwind romance that put a hitch in the 49-year-old's career because of Cruise's supposed craziness for Holmes. Exhibit: The below video in which Cruise freaked out the American populace by being super weird on Oprah. This is Holmes' first marriage, and the third for Cruise, after Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman. The two have a daughter, 6-year-old Suri.

When Tom and Katie first got married, we remember a blind item floating around the gossip-sphere saying that an anonymous starlet signed a five-year marriage contract with an anonymous superstar, with provisions for a child. This blind item, foreshadowing the end of the contract, popped up on our radars recently, as well. The time works. Could the contact have been true all along?

In virtually every case, they can find a new, attractive, young mate almost immediately. For the regular citizen, that is not the case and divorce is usually the last resort after years of mental anguish, unhappiness, or abuse. - This has been coming from the day they announced their engagement. The man is a total jerk, making Katie give up her religion and break her family's heart. - Generally speaking, prenuptial agreements (which they had) are based on time-graded rewards. For example, there might be a clause in a prenup that states if they stay together for 5 years, Katie is entitled to "x", and for 7 years, ""x + y." That's likely the "contract" everyone is talking about (contract - prenuptial agreement). As for a contract to engage in a sham marriage to cover up Cruise's alleged secret homosexual life, that's BS. First of all, it would be illegal to anyone to partake in a contract based on fraud, including the lawyers who wrote it up. Second, if there were such a contract, then please explain how come Katie wants sole custody and support and such a thing was not already spelled out in the so-called 'contract?' And why would Tom's reps claim he was "blindsided" by the divorce filing...this is not a good thing for his public persona. If this were planned and orchestrated based on some secret contract, it would have went down totally different and Cruise's reps would have been in front of it instead of behind it.
