Jay-Z, Mayor Nutter to announce Labor Day weekend concert festival on Monday

POSTED: Friday, May 11, 2012, 7:25 PM

Jay-Z will join Mayor Nutter atop the Art Museum steps at 10:30 Monday to announce a multi-day concert festival called Made in America over Labor Day weekend.

It is unclear whether the event will be held on the Parkway or elsewhere.

Jay-Z posted this video featuring the Philadelphia skyline, screaming fans and a microphone, on his website Friday.

Made in America was the name of a track from Jay-Z and Kanye West's album "Watch the Throne."

UPDATE:

The New York Times reported Sunday night that the Budweiser Made in America festival runs Sept. 1 and Sept. 2 in Fairmount Park and that tickets go on sale May 23 through LiveNation.com and Ticketmaster.com.
A portion of proceeds are to benefit the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey.

This item has been updated from its original posting.

I love Jay-Z big fan! Here we have a black man who came from poverty and now one of the most influential person in the world! A dominant musical icon! Also a well respectable philanthropist known globally for bringing attention to global issues! This will be great to have him perform in the city of Philadelphia. This will be good for the youth, young adults and the majority (black) of the citizens of Philadelphia.

To you ignorant fat out of touch a-holes its 2012! Were done with the Beach Boys, Nickelback, and whoever! This is about music and diversity. Time for something new and hip! You don't like it then keep your butts home and watch Phil Collins concert dvd with the family. I will be at the art museum enjoying a historical event because i love my city and I love my citizens! Rather they black or white!

God Bless America and God Bless Philadelphia. Please respond more ignorant comments you Devil believers!

Ah yeah - the haters jump in stupidly, unknowingly, and - yes - idiotically. Everything - I mean everything - that goes on in the city has to have these creatures 'weigh in' on anything to spread their special brand of disgusting smear campaign against anything Philadelphia and anything that isn't a right-wing fox 'news' attack on the President. Ignore them - I wish I did.

Since the city is slightly more African-American then White, you can not say a black act bring diversity!

Dear god, did someone just put Nickelback and Beach Boys in the same sentence? Please, please go listen to some music. The city according to demographic Census is actually more white than black, for the record. Keep in mind just how big the city limits of Philadelphia are. Also Jay-Z is a great performer and artist, just because you dislike hie musical style doesn't mean he isn't GOOD at what he does, just as what everyone should strive to be. Listen to some of his music before you judge him, start with 'The White Album.'

Although it sounds like such a great family friendly event with absolutely no chance of violence occurring, I still think I'm going to make plans to be far away on Labor Day. May God watch over those in attendance... just in case.

Look at it this way-The day after labor day, they'll be plenty of stories about the crimes, so we can have a good time posting comments.

Who is going to pay for it? The city is broke according to nutter. Or is crying wolf only a tactic to raise taxes so he can hire more deputy mayors?

Hey Jay-Z...don't even think about wearing a Yankees hat or a Giants jersey into our city. We know you love New York so why don't you just stay there??
