GossipLand’s favorite bad girls are both trying to fly free!

Lindsay Lohan got her wings back Thursday.

Now we hear Britney Spears also is trying to wrest free from the legal and paternal bonds which have kept her in check for four years.

Big steps for someone so young.

We all need a grownup in our lives

LiLo is free of the clutches of the law thanks in part to kindly, tough-love dishin’ judge Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner, who mentored her, who kept a maternal eye on her for so many long months until the one-time actor, Playboy model and tabloid fodder got her act together. She’s finished probation and landed a couple of acting gigs.

Britney also has been under the watchful eye of a grownup:

In 2008 she was placed by a court under conservatorship of her father Jamie Spears after she became embroiled in a series of headline-grabbing snafus which led concerned citizens to conclude the mother of two was having a major crack-up. Under the order, the court must approve of all major financial and career moves, and Brit’s dad helps her execute those decision.

Reportedly, Jamie is paid $10,000 a month for his troubles.

Britney: Set me free! Free!

Last week Britney, 30, her da and her fiancé Jason Trawick appeared in Los Angeles County Superior for a conservatorship hearing. RadarOnline says Brit asked Judge Reva Goetz to free her from the arrangement.

Brit said she has toldo her psychiatrist and her court appointed lawyer, Samuel Ingham, she feels she’s ready to get on with her life on her own.

A source tells RadarOnline, “She has expressed this sentiment on multiple occasions, but her doctor believes that Britney isn't ready for the conservatorship to be lifted. She has come a very long way in the last 18 months especially but her team wants more time.”

Britney has some independence: She no longer lives with her dad, but she wants full control over her own fate.

The X Factor factor

The hearing also touched on Britney’s desire to accept Simon Cowell’s offer she become a judge on X Factor – that is, if Cowell does make an official offer. (More on that below.)

As an insider tells RadarOnline Judge Goetz must approve any and all such contracts.

“Judge Goetz wanted to talk to Britney in person to make sure this is something that she wanted to do, and that she was capable of doing,” says the source

“The judge was extremely impressed and Britney is very, very excited to become a part of Simon Cowell's show. The judge signed off on the deal."

But does Cowell really want Brit on his show?

Us Weekly reports the music biz’ very own Darth Vader is having second thoughts.

“Simon's worried she won't be able to deliver good advice, and he's afraid contestants won't take her seriously," a show insider tells the mag.

Yikes!

Britney: I want to live with Jason!

Despite all her setbacks, Brit this week made a big move toward independence by selling her Beverly Hills manse for $4,253,000 a bit lower than the $2,995,000 listing price, says TMZ. She plans to move in with her man.

Living together is the best they can do for now: In February, the couple decided to postpone the wedding indefinitely until Brit dealt with yet another legal problem, a lawsuit filed by her former manager Sam Lufti. The trial has been scheduled for September.

We do hope Brit's third marriage will be a happy one -- whenever it is inaugurated.
