Actor James Franco already has taken Acting and Academe by storm and he’s made inroads into Literature, with his first collection of short stories, Palo Alto, which was published Oct. 19, 2010.

Now he’s about to break out as a bona fide novelist: Franco’s first novel, Actors Anonymous, will be published exclusively by Amazon, reports the New York Observer. (Will it be available as a regular hardcover book or just an ebook? No word on format or publication date.)

Actors Anonymous is a fictionalized account of Franco’s many adventures as an accomplished thesp and star of numerous films, including Howl, the Spider-Man trilogy, Pineapple Express and Milk.

Franco’s penchant (please pronounce it the French way, like enchanté) for expanding his field of cultural activity and achieving excellence in every endeavor is well known to his adoring public.

The 33-year-old  Palo Alto native also has written and directed a film, Good Time Max, and is said to be an accomplished painter, a talent he honed when he attended the California State Summer School for the Arts while still a tender high school student.

But Franco isn’t just a pretty face or performer who relies solely on his instincts and his emotions.

(Though, of course, like his forebears such as James Dean and Marlon Brando, he is more than capable of mining the depths of his unconscious in order to reach preternatural heights of emotional being-there onscreen.)

Franco also excels as an intellectual and scholar.

In the fall of 2012, he will enroll in the University of Houston’s exclusive PhD program in literature and creative writing.

He was one of only 20 applicants admitted out of 400.

It’ll be Franco’s second doctorate degree: He’s currently also pursuing a PhD in literature at Yale University.

Prior to that, he was enrolled in three master’s programs simultaneously – Columbia University's MFA writing program, New York University's Tisch School of the Arts’ graduate school for filmmaking and Brooklyn College for fiction writing.

He earned his undergraduate degree at University of California, Los Angeles with a grade point average of 3.5 (out of 4.0)

Franco flies high indeed!

Literally: He also completed trailing for a license as private pilot.

Is there anything this young man can't accomplish?
