True Detective is one of the year’s most anticipated shows, in part because it stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. They play a pair of Louisiana cops investigating a spooky serial killer case.

They’re partners, but as this clip indicates, the two men are not exactly peas in a pod. Martin Hart (Harrelson) is a seemingly stable family man who finds his brush with darkness deeply disturbing. Rust Cohle (McConaughey) is stranger, more disconnected, but he’s got tough roots.

As the narrator of this trailer – Marty’s wife, Maggie (Michelle Monaghan) – says, “Rust was maybe the least confused person I’ve ever met.”

True Detective is an anthology series, which means the two stars are only committed for the season that begins next Sunday (Jan 12). But don’t say we didn’t warn you: it’s a haunting experience.
