‘Game of Thrones’ dragon booed at Philadelphia stop

Game of Thrones brought its “Dance of Dragons” DVD promotion to Philadelphia Wednesday night, leaving some fans of the show disappointed.

Hundreds of people showed up to the Dilworth Park area for the event, which came to Philadelphia to promote the release of the fifth season of Game of Thrones on DVD. The location served as a “crash site” for the “3D animated dragon projection” the promo advertised.

Shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday, those projections began, with one showing at 13th and Market, and a second at the Masonic Temple. Philadelphians, as we are wont to do, promptly booed it:

The Game of Thrones dragon, it seems, did not live up to attendees’ expectations. Rather than the fearsome, powerful beasts of mythology we know, we got something that was closer to a screensaver on steroids:

Prior to the Philadelphia stop, Game of Thrones took their dragon to New York and Los Angeles, where there were more favorable reactions. The New York Post, however, did call the promo a “total dud.”

Today, the Game of Thrones crew wraps up their “Dance of Dragon” tour in San Francisco. The show’s sixth season premieres on HBO on April 24.
