I read an interesting story in the Washington Post about how environmentalists are trying to get Americans to switch to toilet tissue made from recycled paper.

Turns out, a lot of what you find in industrial settings already is recycled. The challenge is to get consumers to start buying it for home use - which could be challenging considering how brand conscious some of us are. Advertising has taught us that soft is better.

But is it really? And if it is, why is it better? It's not essential. What did early human beings use? 

Still, it's a going to be a mindshift for a lot of folks used to their brand-name products. You know how people are about their personal preferences.

But it's a small change. And if it can make a difference in the environment, why not?
