Don't let those mounds of snow deceive you - spring IS on the way. What surer sign than the notice of a volunteer orientation meeting for those interested in helping to monitor the spring toad migration in the Upper Roxborough section of Philadelphia?
This is important work, as the toads cross busy roadways to get to their annual mating site in the abandoned reservoir near the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education on Hagy's Mill Road. Many don't make it, which is why a band of volunteers has organized the last few years to help detour traffic and get the toads to safety.
The orientation meeting will be held from 4-5 p.m. Sunday, March 7 in the Dick James Room at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education on Hagy's Mill Road. The agenda will include volunteer protocol and scheduling.
If you'd like to volunteer but can't make the meeting, contact Lisa Levinson, Toad Detour Coordinator, firstname.lastname@example.org, 215-620-2130.
