Auto Show: The greening of American cars

If the Detroit auto show was any indication, our Philadelphia show will be one big, entertaining lesson in green technology. Everything was green, from the driving simulator at the entrance where kids could see how their driving burned energy to the Acura display case.  That's right, the case labels themselves touted their own greeness, which included "aluminum made of 15-20% recycled materials."  My eyes will boycott any display case using less than that ever again!

This is a good thing. The BMW Efficientdynamic (their spelling) means "Less emissions. More driving pleasure."

The Acura Advance touts its "environmental sustainability."

Honda racing is green, as is their "electric mobility network," which is a "comprehensive approach to a zero-emissions future."

Ford was most front-and-center, even bragging that its huge gas-guzzling pickup guzzled less gas than anyone else's gas-guzzling pickup!

I say, good on them.  Clearly  first-adopter environmentalists, umm, paved the way for this to happen.  But only Detroit can actually sell the cars.  A trip to this year's auto show will make everyone who visits realize that the future is with high-mileage vehicles and, finally, the auto makers are beginning to produce them.  Although I gotta say, that hot orange Camaro...
