Drexel to meet UNCW in CAA quarterfinal

RICHMOND – Top seeded Drexel (25-5) will be playing No. 9 seeded University of North Carolina Wilmington (10-20) in Saturday’s noon Colonial Athletic Association quarterfinal at the Richmond Coliseum.

RICHMOND – Top seeded Drexel (25-5) will be playing No. 9 seeded University of North Carolina Wilmington (10-20) in Saturday’s noon Colonial Athletic Association quarterfinal at the Richmond Coliseum.

While top-seeded Drexel had a first-round bye, UNCW defeated No. 8 seed James Madison, 70-59 in today’s opening round game.

Cedrick Williams, a 6-9 freshman, scored 22 points and Keith Rendleman, a 6-foot-8 junior all-conference selection, added 14 for UNCW.

UNCW trailed 13-4 early in the first half but had taken a 34-25 led by intermission.

Drexel won at UNCW, 79-57 on Jan. 14 in the only meeting this season between the two teams.

In that game, Rendleman had 23 points and nine rebounds but Williams was held scoreless in 19 minutes.
