After tonight, there are only two more episodes this season of “The Americans” (10 p.m., FX) which makes me sadder than I care to think about.

Will Russian spies Elizabeth (Keri Russell) and Philip Jennings (Matthew Rhys) reach some kind of detente in their own Cold War before the season ends? I hope so, because their arranged marriage was a lot more interesting  than any TV divorce could be. First, though, Elizabeth takes on a mission for which she'll need her estranged husband's help. That mission, as always, will require at least one or two great wigs.

You may also want to check out:

-- “Suburgatory” (8 and 8:30 p.m., 6 ABC), which ends its season with back-to-back episodes in which George (Jeremy Sisto) decides to sell the house and Tessa (Jane Levy) is decidedly not happy.

--  “American Idol” (8 p.m., Fox 29). The Top 5  compete and for the first time, I think it’s safe to say that the next “American Idol” will definitely be female.

-- "Southland" (10 p.m., TNT), which heads into its season (and quite possibly its series) finale tonight.

About this blog
As the TV critic for the Philadelphia Daily News, I've always believed my job is less about thumbs -- up or down -- and more about the conversation. Because the more choices we have, the fewer people in our lives know what we're talking about when we say, "Did you see that?" And that's when television really starts to get interesting.
