Olbermann out at MSNBC

POSTED: Friday, January 21, 2011, 9:40 PM

The clock's run out on MSNBC's "Countdown with Keith Olbermann," which apparently came to an unexpected end with tonight's show.

The NBC-owned cable news network issued the following not very revealing statement:

"MSNBC and Keith Olbermann ahve ended their contract. The last broadcast of 'Countdown with Keith Olbermann' will be this evening. MSNBC thanks Keith for his integral role in MSNBC's success and we wish him well in his future endeavors."

Starting Monday, "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell" will move in to Olbermann's 8 p.m. timeslot, and "The Ed Show," hosted by Ed Schultz, will replace O'Donnell at 10. (Rachel Maddow stays put.)

In November, MSNBC suspended Olbermann briefly after learning that he had contributed to Democratic campaigns, a violation of the network's rules.

Comcast, meanwhile, this week cleared the final regulatory hurdles for its takeover of NBC.

Olbermann, who formerly worked as an anchor for ESPN's "Sports Center" and for Fox Sports Net, has hosted "Countdown" since 2003.

Thank goodness! Olbermann was his own biggest fan and I am glad to seem him given the boot. His arrogance is second to none and he will find out that the limelight doesn't shine on has-beens too long. Now, if his female counterpart could be tossed, MSNBC may just be headed in the right direction.

Comcast bought them and they are a right wing company. Palin is a Comcast favorite. So they silence any opposing voices.

So you found some website and that makes what it says factual? Must not have to much experience on the web. Check out Comcast.net and look at some of the videos posted there. Most of them are from Fox "(Not)News"

We all knew MSNBC was destined to become a new Fox rival - but this soon is making my even my Comcast-loathing head spin.

How sad. This guy was an articulate voice; so provocative and clear thinking. If you didn't agree with his point of view, which often I did not...he challenged opposing views with intellectual arguments that causes one to check and double check flimsy positions. Where will he go as MSNBC was the ideal outlet.

Another blow to the whole myth of "liberal media." But as Orwell once said, "In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." So much for leaning forward, eh?

Q: If Olbermann gets fired from MSNBC and nobody is watching does it make a sound?
