A specal edition of the late-night show, tentatively scheduled for 10-11 p.m., will follow the 50th Super Bowl on Feb. 7.
The Late Show with James Corden will also get a shot at a larger audience, with a slot following the local news.
Networks have traditionally used the time after the big game to expose a prime-time show – either an established hit or a new series -- to an audience that often runs into the tens of millions. According to CBS, this will be the first time a late-night show has been scheduled after the big game.
Since its Sept. 8 premiere, Colbert's Late Show has averaged 3.29 million viewers and is up 200 percent in adults 18-34, 60 percent in adults 18-49 and 43 percent in adults 25-54, according to CBS.
