FX has added a 14th episode to the current run of its popular motorcycle-gang drama "Sons of Anarchy," bringing the Season 4 finale to Dec. 6, the cable network announced today.

Creator Kurt Sutter is said to have asked for the extra time and no doubt chose a good moment. The show's having its highest-rated season yet, averaging 5.45 million viewers a week (with about 3 million more over multiple showings).

By the way, the network's release describes tomorrow's episode, "Hands" (10 p.m., FX) as "explosive."

Make of that what you will.

About this blog
As the TV critic for the Philadelphia Daily News, I've always believed my job is less about thumbs -- up or down -- and more about the conversation. Because the more choices we have, the fewer people in our lives know what we're talking about when we say, "Did you see that?" And that's when television really starts to get interesting.
