'Jersey Shore' sets new record for MTV

Shipping Snooki off to Italy seems to have paid off for MTV, if not for U.S.-Italian relations. Thursday night's fourth-season premiere averaged a record 8.8 million viewers for the show, up 4 percent from its Season 3 premiere, MTV reports. That's the most people ever to watch an MTV season premiere, though two "Jersey Shore" telecasts from last season drew even more viewers. Significantly for MTV, which targets viewers 12-34, 6.5 million of those 8.8 million viewers were in that age group.
