Beyonce could have dialed it back and still stunned at Super Bowl

POSTED: Monday, February 4, 2013, 3:03 PM

I’m no hater, but I raised my eyebrows a few times during Beyonce’s pyrotechnic-infused Super Bowl performance.

Here's the thing: Queen Bey was beyond phenomenal Sunday night. After all the tongue wagging over her lip synching at President Obama’s inauguration, she needed to bring her A game and boy did she. She killed it, as the saying goes. Even if her skimpy bodysuit outfit was a tad on the dominatrix side, Beyonce looked gorgeous with her flowing, blonde mane blowing out behind her as she stomped around the stage. Her confidence is inspiring. I love the fact that she’s not rail thin and still manages to be as Jay Z raps, “the hottest chick in the game.“ Seeing Destiny’s Child pop up to join her onstage only added to the thrill. I spent much of the halftime show bouncing around and yelling at the TV screen.

Girlfriend turned it out in the dance department, but there were moments when she was gyrating like a stripper who needed money to pay her back rent. You never see Tina Turner laid out across a dirty floor like that. Diana Ross either.

Next time she's onstage, I'd love to hear more singing and see less crotch flashing from Beyonce. In my opinion, she's above all that. She's Beyonce. The same Beyonce who looked so gorgeous standing on the steps of the U.S. Capital with the first family as she performed the National Anthem. The same Beyonce who four years ago beautifully serenaded Pres. Obama and the first lady as they danced to "At Last" at their first inaugural ball. Beyonce's a wife. She's Blue Ivy's mom. She's the head of a musical empire. She's an icon.

I don't want to see her flashing her crotch. Mostly because I don't want to see my nieces trying to emulate her the next time they're out on the dance floor. Same thing with all the other littl girls. The Obama daughters also are fans. When Beyonce sings, "All the Single Ladies" or "Survivor," she sends a powerful message about female empowerment. But what about some of the other messages she sends?

Would have liked to see some exposure of musicians actually associated with New Orleans but since we rarely hear from Beyonce or her "music" I guess it was alright. Will she be doing the anthem & the halftime & the closing ceremony at the NBA All Star game next?

It's understandable since New Orleans lacks a musical tradition. Why feature the hot rhythems of Louis Armstrong when we could have Beyonce rolling around on the floor?

seems like every female pop artist does that proverbial, show off the hot legs, strut. how about some originality and seemed like her performance is more dancing than singing. color me not impressed.

THANK YOU! I thought the same thing. Great talent, she doesn't need to do that.

Such a talent to waste on bump-and-grind in-your-face moves. Only thing missing was the pole.

Folks, this is American Culture. Ain't it great.? Was she "asking for it" or simply "flaunting it?"

Tina Turner showing all that leg and shaking the way she did 40 years ago was way over the top for it's time. Successful artists push the envelope, or else they fade away.

She lip synched it again. Whenever (rarely) that they showed a close up of her singing her mouth and the words did not match up. And the entire thing was done to a pre-recorded sound track.

...stomped around the stage is a correct critique. Real "talent" there.

Same old, same old and more of the same old, same old from her. She doesn't have any other style than gyrate, grind and pole dancer.

She's not even the best talent in Destiny's Child. Rowland is a much better singer and about 10 times prettier. Not as hot as you though Jen.

Mrs Armstrong Let not forget Beyonce is a performer and if her type of entertainment don't do it for you turn the channel.Football is a man sport and majority of the audience are men, I'm sure they didn't want to see Susan Boyle sing.Josephine Baker wore less than that in the 50's and most American didn't appreciate her way of expression her art.She had to go to France to become famous. The bottom line who every you are, you are always going to have people that oppose you. Even some hater along the way.

The show was terrible. An over choreographed, lip synced mess. Why not sdo away with all the half time shows and just play the commercials. At least some of those were entertaining.

when you are forced to sing live and you can't, do the next best thing, run around partially naked and yell a few words every now and again. That was the absolute WORST half time show ever. Would have rather seen Janet Jackson's 50 year old boob again!!!!! The talent left the stage after the children's choir. Alicia Keys was awful. She should NEVER be allowed to sing the National Anthem Again!!!!!!

Thought it was horrible. Beyonce dressed like a dominatrix and lip synching is not quality entertainment.

I loved it. Better than Madonna. Better than Timberlake and Janet. I am not a fan. I do not own any of her music, but when they book next years act, she should be the yardstick used to measure the pick.

All you haters can kiss it! She looked beautiful, sang great and was more lively than the old performers the NFL usually gets. And for all you who say her costume was too revealing, did you see the cheerleaders dressed in just about the same outfits? Keep hating everyone.

"stunned? talent? wow. people have set the bar for entertainment so very low. americans are so aggressively mediocre. this is "entertainment" for dumb people." Could not agree more. Bread and circuses for the masses.

"Tina Turner showing all that leg and shaking the way she did 40 years ago was way over the top for it's time. Successful artists push the envelope, or else they fade away." Tina could actually sing, with depth and emotion. Her great legs and dancing were an added bonus.

    Haterz gonna hate!

I'm not even a big B fan. But none of you... can hold a candle. None of the people you named... "Pink?.... seriously?" can hold a candle. She danced and sang, in high heels. Let's see you arm chair musicians try this.

No matter what she does... she gets hated on. Jealousy is just an ugly thing. And the people calling her fat, are the pedos who like women who look like 12 YO boys.
