Winston Justice traded to Colts

POSTED: Wednesday, March 14, 2012, 11:56 AM

The Eagles have traded right tackle Winston Justice along with a sixth-round pick to the Indianapolis Colts for a sixth-round pick.

The deal is the first for Eagles general manager Howie Roseman with new Colts GM Ryan Grigson, who formerly worked for Roseman in the Eagles' front office.

The move pushes the Eagles from the 17th pick in Round 6 to the second pick in the round.

More importantly, it saves the Eagles about $2.3 million in salary cap space this year.

Justice's departure seemed likely since last offseason when he was coming off knee surgery, and lost his starting job to Todd Herremans, who signed a long-term extension yesterday with the team.

Also, defensive tackle Antonio Dixon has signed his second-round tender for $1.927 million.

Other teams can attempt to sign him, but the Eagles would have seven days after April 20 to match offer or receive a second-round pick as compensation for losing him. And that isn't happening.

I hope they re-sign King Dunlap. He can play solidly at both tackle positions. He can also play guard. That makes him a valuable player as a backup. At least they got something for Justice rather than just releasing him.

Dude...are you serious? King Dunlap couldn't block Stephen Hawking. With his size he should be annihilating people, but he constantly gets abused by much smaller players because he is too slow and too soft. He is pretty damned useless. I can only hope one of our draft picks will supplant him sooner rather than later. Good deal moving Justice. Making way too much not to start, and he isn't good enough to start. I'm surprised the Colts had any interest.

Oh my god, did you really say that? Couldn't block Stephen Hawking...

Now that's funny. And one of the funniest things I have read among these posts in a long time.

And I agree, I'll drive Dunlap to the airport if you can get rid of him!

That WAS a pretty funny analogy. I'd probably have said something lame like my two year old or, my grandma.

Before some PC wacko gets on here and chastises shatter for making joke of the physically disabled...let me say that even Stephen Hawking would've laughed at that one.

I thought Justice played decently in 2010 until he hurt his knee. He did struggle sometimes against 3-4 OLB rushers. He seemed like a good guy, best of luck. Disappointed the Eagles could only get 15 spots in the 6th round for him. They couldn't even get the 6th round pick outright for him? All that money will go towards Mccoy's new contract.

Anything more than a bag of balls is a win.

Sorry man, you're mistaken. If you're tendered, you don't have to sign. Signing it takes you off the market. You can't be signed to two offers from two different teams (and that's what is being tendered, an "offer"). If he didn't sign, he can get offers elsewhere, if he did sign, he can't. Odds are, he priced out the market, realized the tender was the best offer he'd get and signed it.

Show me the rule that says otherwise.

Yeah, seems like this guy is confusing a RFA tender with the Franchise tender.

might wantto brush up on those RFA rules, or NFL rules in general. Once a player signs his tender, he can't accept an offer from another team.

You may want to brush up on rules for signing a Tender. Other teams are allowed to offer a contract to those who sign the tender and then the original team has the option to match that offer or allow the playter to go to that team and in return they receive that teams 2nd round pick. beofre you spout at the mouth, make sure you're the one who is informed.

ugh, got the wrong thread. twice! sorry

You can't be signed to two offers from two different teams (and that's what is being tendered, an "offer"). If he didn't sign with Philly, he can get offers elsewhere, if he did sign, he can't. It's not hard to understand. Odds are, he priced out the market, realized the tender was the best offer he'd get and signed it.

The accounting firm of Banner, Roseman and Reid already have a few fastballs lined up to take Justice's place. The selected candidate will also be able to fix a leaky pipe or install a new hard drive as the Linc also needs a plumber or computer repairman and this front office loves guys who can multitask!
