With veterans Donovan McNabb, Brian Westbrook and Kevin Curtis sitting out with injuries, the Eagles’ 34-14 victory over Kansas City was one for the young players.

The offensive starters featured Kevin Kolb at quarterback, DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin at wide receiver and LeSean McCoy at running back. Rookies Maclin and McCoy were making their first career starts.

“I’m glad to see that,” Reid said. “You got a lot of young faces in that huddle … That’s a plus.”

As the Eagles head to the bye week, Reid said he expects McNabb and Westbrook to back when the schedule resumes against Tampa Bay.

Westbrook was listed as questionable with an ankle injury, but ended up not playing.

“It just never got better,” Reid said of Westbrook’s injury. “There was soreness in the ankle, not swelling. There was inflammation in the tendon. We couldn’t get the soreness out of there. I don’t think it’s a long-lasting thing. This week will be good week for him to recover and he’ll be back out there.”

Reid also made it clear that there will be no decision if McNabb is healthy.

“Donovan is the quarterback of the team,” he said. “I don’t think it’s a problem for Kevin. I don’t think it’s a problem for the team. And I don’t think it’s a problem for me.”

On Kolb, Reid said. “I thought he had a good day. That’s a compliment to the kid. It’s always tougher your second game.”

On McCoy: “I thought he protected well. He ran the ball well. I thought he played well all the way around, a complete game. He was aggressive in carrying the football. He held the football a little tighter this week.”

On Maclin: “I thought Jeremy Maclin did well for his first game.”

The biggest story line going into the game was Michael Vick, who finished 0-for-2 passing and one carry for 7 yards. Reid said he did not set a percentage of plays for Vick’s debut. Vick was on the field for 11 plays.

“We wanted to get him in and just get him gradually back in with the speed of the game,” Reid said. “We wanted to knock some of the rust off. We accomplished that.”

Reid also lauded the defensive effort.

“The defense played exceptionally well,” Reid said. “They were flying around. I just thought as a group they swarmed to the football, they did a heck of a job.”

Another win against a sub par NFL team. Hard to tell anything about the team when you play junk like they have for their two wins. When they played a good team they got destroyed.

Kolb is the perfect QB for the future of 8-8 each year.

Great win. You have to giv credit to Lurie, Reid and all of management. We are set up for years to come. When the sad day comes and Mcnab and westbrook is no longer playing for us. I well rest easy with knowing we have Kolb and Mcoy. Best management in the buisness.

Where are all the dopes that said Kolb could never play in the NFL without even seeing him play in more than 1 game against Baltimore's defense? I can't believe how dumb some people are out there. You know what we didn't see today? We didn't see Kolb dumb the ball off to the runningback after looking down the field for 10 seconds like McNabb does while he has receivers running wide open across the field.

Good to see Joe Banner has nothing better to do than post on these boards on game day. So what did you think of the defense, radicaleaglesfan?

Seriously, the stat that jumps out at me the most is no penalties on the offense. That's impressive considering all the young guys out there.

The Eagles front office has done a good job!! They have ivin us a glimpse of the future and it's so bright I need shades!!! take this week off to heal, get the rust off against the Raiders and then get busy with the business of returning to the playoffs!!

Great EAGLES win! It is very clear this team has NO need for Vick. He stinks anyway!
