Why did Kolb, Bradley return to game?

POSTED: Sunday, September 12, 2010, 7:57 PM

Kevin Kolb and Stewart Bradley both were re-inserted into the game after suffering what were later diagnosed as concussions.

"They were fine," coach Andy Reid said. "The [doctors] felt like all the questions were answered things they did with the docs, registered well. As it went on, they weren’t feeling well and we took them out."

Kolb's injury was initially diagnosed as a jaw problem after Clay Matthews slammed him to the ground. He returned to the game after the injury. He was 5-for-10 for 24 yards and was sacked twice.

Bradley's head bent back when he collided with Ernie Sims' hip. Bradley attempted to get up and then toppled over. He eventually returned to the game before being ruled out.

Asked why they were allowed to return, especially Bradley, Reid said, "Our docs and Rick [Burkholder] are on top of that. They thought he tested out OK on the sidelines."

As for their prognosis, Reid said, "I’m going to meet with the doctor and see how they all test out."

If Kolb is cleared to play and healthy, Reid said Kolb would start next week against Detroit.

Reid was asked whether he could foresee Vick becoming the starting QB at some point this season. "I think Michael did a phenomenal job today, he brought the team back, kept his poise, threw the ball well, had some good runs. I’m happy as heck for Michael. I’m not looking into the future here. Trying to get this fixed and win some football games."

Fullback Leonard Weaver has a torn ACL and center Jamaal Jackson has a torn bicep, seemingly ending their seasons. Both players will have MRIs in the morning to confirm the diagnosis.

The Eagles only have one fullback and two tight ends on the roster, so a move seems imminent. "We’ll get with Howie and talk that through."

On Weaver, Reid said, "He’s a phenomenal guy, a phenomenal player. That was a very ugly looking injury. I could tell right away when I started walking out on the field, he got hyperextended a little bit.

On the fourth-and-1 situation, Vick was lined up in the shotgun and stopped short. "We thought it was the right thing to do. That was the play we had, we felt strongly about it and it didn’t work. We thought we could make the first down whether it was shotgun or not." Reid said they practiced the play with Vick in the shotgun.

On not having any timeouts and using the last one with 5m inutes left, Reid said, "That’s just what we do there. Hindsight it was still a good idea … We just didn’t get it done there at the end."

Growing pains people growing pains. We are not playing for 2010, but 2011 and beyond. If Kolb does not improve by the end of the year then we have problems but this is all growing pains at this point.

" ... hyperextended a little bit." ????? Weaver's leg looked like an alien in the movie "The Arrival." I think most people would call getting dog-legged, which is not so good if you're human and your knee bends in the opposite direction. Never trust Big Andy or the Eagles doctors. Until a doctor can MEDICALLY RULE OUT a concussion, the patient needs to be treated as if he suffered a concussion. This is the type of dangerous decisions that cuts players careers in half. Reid must go!!

Call me when NFL teams really get serious about concussions. Despite all the talk and the evidence of impact on the players' long-term health, it hasn't happened yet.

Andy Reid should be fired immediately. This team was not ready to play. Offensively no plan whatsoever! Omar Gaither stinks and should be cut along with Buckley. Also the team plays much better when Peters is hurt. Cut him too.....

mr conVick played well in his back up performance,,just think if BIG RED had the b**** to put conVick in the last two games against dallas last season, maybe we would have had a better chance at beating dallas...as long as Kevin Kolb is healthy he will start against the lions next week with a big win,, concussions has effected other QB's like kurt warner troy aikman and steve young, hopefully this isn't a career problem for kevin kolb he's the future of this team...2012-SB.....wolf.

They can definitely win without Kolb. He is weak, immobile, and makes poor decisions under pressure. Vick out played him by a mile.

Vick should have run that ball to either side up the middle was a stupid call from Reid.

Typicle eagle fan over reaction, yes it was stupid to let Bradley and Kolb return.Kolb is your quarterback no matter what Vick did you reacted the same for McNabbs 11 years. Everyone knows the team seems to give a little more effort when the back-up comes in.

The underplaying of significant injury, which even a blind person could see, yet alone see in slow motion replay, is as absurd as Andy's longtime abuse of the game clock, trusting Morningwheg to make even the simplest play choice and one yard seem an impossibility, or drafting no offensive lineman with twelve picks. We lost the two most important stabilizing players on offense, the center, and our middle linebacker, to injury. Oh, with a thrown together OL, no center, and without the fullback to protect and block, Kolb won't be safe, even when healthy. Howie... what a genius. Lurie, worse than the Phillies management making a mint from this City and the loyal fans, and being a cheapskate making the hated Jerry Jones look good for his deal with Austin, turning his nose at Desean. Sickening..... Snider may be a dinosaur, but he would spend twice the cap if he could. Lurie.... pathetic.

Where's lonewolf after Kolbs MVP performance. McNabb just did more in his 1st drive with the skins than Kolb did in an entire half. This team is aweful and the injuries are already mounting.

The biggest career problem for Kolb is that they keep putting him in at quarterback.
