When will McNabb deal happen?

POSTED: Monday, March 29, 2010, 12:26 PM

When will the Eagles make a move with Donovan McNabb?
Within the next three weeks.
In the days leading up to the draft.
During the draft.
After the draft, but before his roster bonus is due May 5.
What move? He will be the Eagles' quarterback next season.

From reading the comments on our previous posts, we get the sense a lot of you are already tired of the rampant discussion and unsubstantiated rumors about where Donovan McNabb will be traded. And we don't blame you.

Today, we will take a different tack on the McNabb conversation. Not about where he might land, but when he will land somewhere, if he is even traded at all. Making a move with the quarterback will help dictate a lot about the remainder of the Eagles' offseason, especially if they get a high draft pick in return or a player at a position of need, or both.

The Eagles have insisted they are not done building this team. Even Andy Reid conceded last week that they had more work to do. He said the team was ready "to compete," but the issue really is whether they can contend.

At right is a poll with some possibilities, ranging from being traded in the immediate future to not being traded at all. Obviously, the two key dates to consider here are the start of the NFL draft on April 22 and the date McNabb is due a roster bonus of more than $6 million, which is May 5.

So, cast your vote in the poll or leave a comment below or both.

The big NFL story of the day is quarterback Sam Bradford's Pro Day at Oklahoma, which got underway a short time ago. Many big names are in attendance among the 50 or some team executives, including four representatives from the St. Louis Rams, who have the No. 1 pick overall. That includes general manager Billy Devaney and head coach Steve Spagnuolo.

According to Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson, Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg is also in attendance.

Another interesting nugget on the quarterback trail in terms of the draft is that Tim Tebow was in Buffalo last night and had dinner with Jim Kelly. The best part of this is that it was revealed by his wife Jill on her Twitter page.

Another story to get out the vocal, dopey bunch of haters that always post. I think y'all get what you want but be careful what you wish for. I think the Eagles are tired of it and will move him. But it's like Buddy used to say...'when you start listening to the fans, pretty soon you'll be sitting up there with them'. I say 5 is a goner and no matter what they get, they don't make the playoffs once the blessed 'Kolb Era' is allowed to start. And could miss the playoffs with 5, too.

I don't care when they trade him, just as long as they trade him. They already blew this deal in terms of obtaining the highest possible value for him. Once again the three stooges, Lurie, Banner, and Reid outsmarted the rest of the league and have now backed themselves into a corner and are at the mercy of whatever teams might be interested in trading for McNabb, besides McNabb himself who now has the organization by the balls. He will be an UFA next year, so why would teams be willing to give up high draft picks for him this year, unless it is something like a third rounder at which the Eagles will refuse and watch McNabb just walk away with nothing in exchange for him. Is it any wonder why this organization hasn't and won't win a Super Bowl?

Articles about McNabb are like shooting fish in a barrel. Guaranteed to stoke the ADD fan base. Way to go Les. Or is it Paul? Nobody wants to own up to it? At least Jeff McClane had the guts to put his name on trash.

I think the Andy wants too much for McNabb, thus Five will stay for another season. I have no problem with that, because McNabb is still better than Kolb.

well, i hope management makes the right call here. hate to see nc'nabb go, but if thats to happen,so be it.we can't stop it if all of us wanted to.like the lee trade off.i hope the eagles think this thru thoroghly.cause once u pull the trigger the bullet is gone.my choice is,u started with him, end it with him,but gewt the other wr ,and a receiving back ,and rebuild the o-line,we might make some noise in the nfc this season.keep him...

Please don't tell me about the past with Number 5. It's time to go! It was time for Westbrook and its time for McNabb. This guy isn't going to get any better. Check his accuracy percentage and his record against playoff teams in 2009. A big zero! Check the 2010 schedule against playoff teams. It's time!Don't you think they refused to give him the extension last year for a reason? Enough already...It's time!
