What to watch vs. Kansas City

POSTED: Thursday, August 26, 2010, 5:21 PM

A look at five things to keep your eyes on during Friday night's Eagles preseason game against Kansas City:

1. Todd Herremans: The left guard might be the most consistent member of the offensive line when he’s healthy. He hasn’t played this preseason. The Eagles say they’ve taken it slow with Herremans as a precautionary move, after he experienced soreness in his repaired left foot back in the spring. But you take precautions for a reason, because you’re concerned. Herremans needs to get through this game without any problems. If he helps solidify a struggling interior line corps, that would be nifty, as well.

2. Mike Bell: The running back penciled in as the main backup to relatively untested Shady McCoy has not played a down in the preseason. Be kind of nice to see him stay healthy and look sharp, as well. Maybe Bell can help convert an early third-and-1 like the chance the Eagles botched last week in Cincinnati?

3. The starters, in general: The third preseason game is the one where you see the main guys the most. In fact, it’s the last time you see them before the season starts. So red zone success for the offense would be a nice thing, and a little better push from the defensive front, without blitzing, also would be reassuring. Nobody getting hurt is a good thing, as well.

4. David Akers: The kicker, who turns 36 in December, didn’t practice all week because of a heel problem, but he’s scheduled to kick tonight anyway. If he falls down clutching his foot, that could have an impact on the season.

5. Kick return coverage: It’s been absolutely awful so far. Eagles seem to get guys down near the returner, but nobody takes that extra step and puts him on the ground early in the return. Big improvement needed here.

I punted the ball away while losing with less than 2 minutes in the New Orleans playoff game a few years back. But I out-smarted Sean Payton. Time's yours.

The racism against Donavan reminds me of how Obama is treated on a daily basis. Kolb is treated like a kin but hasn't won anything. Hmmm, why is that? Let's see: Donovan is black and Kolb is white. Doesn't take a genius to understand what is going on here. And it just wasn't McNabb. Look at how Vick was treated last year when he came on board. People were outraged because the Eagles were adding another black quarterback.

And I'm tired of the way people treat us fattys. Everytime I'm in a public place, people throw peanuts at me. Time's yours.

C'mon, this is the type game the Eagles live for, a bad team and a bad offense. This game will be a stat heaven, even for Sims. I'm not at all worried that the Packers first teamers put up 38 against the Colts tonight, not at all.

Lol, eldia. I fail to understand people like you. Obviously, you would love a racist-free world. Yet, how do you go about trying to accomplish that? You do everything you possibly can to get into an argument about race when race is irrelevant. What you do drives people further apart. YOU are the reason racism is still alive in the world today. That being said, no, McNabb and Vick aren't hated because they're black. A racist would have a really tough time being an Eagles fan (or for that matter, an other football team's) seeing as the large majority of NFL skill position (read: WRs, RBs, Defensive leaders, all of the guys that make headlines except QB) players are black. How could a racist possibly cheer for a team when he hates more than half the players on the team? McNabb is disliked now because there is a better option behind him -- Kolb. McNabb is in the twilight of his career, he won't win more than he's already won. It was time to move onto Kolb, the younger QB whose skill set actually fits for the scheme Reid wants to use. Vick was disliked because he was a murderer (of animals). Personally, I don't hold that against him and I acknowledge that his childhood must have not been ideal to have brought him up thinking that dogfighting was OK, but I completely understand why some other people would never want to give him another chance. What I DO hold against him, however, is his dismal 12/22, 125 yards, 3 INT, 0 TD, 4 sack performance against BACKUPS so far this preseason. He's a QB that can't pass the ball at an NFL level, so I don't want him on my team. Oh, and Obama? I don't want this country to start heading down the road to Communism. In keeping with the rules of this board and my dwindling allowance of characters for this post, I will defer from expounding that statement. So please, take your non-existant race issues and keep them to yourself, otherwise people in this world will never be treated as one if you keep instigating arguments on race.

Wow. Way to turn my paragraphs into an ugly block of text, philly.com. Lol @ jimmyj. Packers look amazing. They're going to be the #1 team in the NFC this year.

I guess the worst part of racism is when you don't realize you are! Keep it real! You're happy that the all time qb is gone so you can rally around a qb with more ints thrown for td's than wins in his career. You're happy to be sitting home than watching playoff football. You say a guy(Vick) that led a team by himself(Falcons) to one game short of the superbowl can't play? But it's not about race? Really? Because none of these great white hopes have won a SB city for 60 yrs so please back up your opinion with facts and then we'll believe it's not about race!

And while where at it how can someone who throws bad ints ( no tipped balls straight to the defender) be called a accurate qb! Sorry folks he's no Brady, Rodgers, or Manning. He's Kevin Kolb he didn't win anything in college or the nfl. This lovefest is pathetic and embarrassing to real Eagles fans. Somebody actually said he gives good interviews so he'll do well. It's disgusting

McNabb was great. Keyword: was. He'll be 34 by the end of this season, and there have been precious few quarterbacks that have had more success past 34 than they did before -- it would be an exception, not the rule, if he was to find success. Vick is only good if you build a team around him. As is undeniable, he is a substantially below average passer. The only way you can have success with Vick is if you build the team around his strength (running) which the Falcons did and he gave them some success, but the Eagles are NOT built around a running QB and Reid isn't about to change his west coast philosophy any time soon. So there are your FACTS as to why I don't want either of them on the Eagles at the present time. "Great white hopes"? What? Accuracy has very little correlation to INTs. An intercepted pass can be accurately going to the receiver, but the decision to throw it where the defender can come between the accurately thrown ball was bad. Decision making at an NFL level doesn't just come to a quarterback in his first start (or, for that matter, when he is abruptly thrown into a game against an elite defense that was destroying the starting QB all day, as was the situation in the Baltimore game a few years ago). "Real Eagles fans"? HAH! I find that to be hilarious. Are you serious? You're the one bashing the EAGLES' starting QB while saying that the RESKINS' starting QB is the best thing since sliced bread. And yeah, Kolb shows the leadership and confidence qualities necessary to be successful in the NFL during his interviews, so that is a completely reasonable reason for someone to be excited about him. I'm glad you brought up Rodgers. Part of the reason he's been so successful is because of the way he was introduced to the NFL - backup a great QB for a few years and then you're ready to be the starter. Kolb is the same. His and Rodger's styles are very similar, and Rodgers hasn't won anything major either (Kolb has yet to be given a chance to in the NFL).

And why does everything default to race if I say one guy is better than another who happens to be of different colored skin? Maybe I don't like guys with beards? Maybe I hated their hair style? Or what if I despised the number a guy wore? Or maybe, just maybe, I was looking at the way they played football?

Sono - shut up, I like McNabb as much as the next guy but he's not on our team anymore so get over it please. You are almost as bad as lonewolf. Speaking of which, lonewolf, why does THIS game set the mark for how good the offense is? Just because it's against a bad team? Last time I checked, playing against a good team shows how good your offense is...last week they didn't score a TD....we got a ways to go, and obviously so do you.

Yeah and at 34 he set the team all time record for offense and led them to the playoffs. Once again I said state facts not opinion. Fact: Kolb 7ints & 1 win. Listen I could care less if 5 was traded or not I'm not a family member of his but the way this town has thrown dirt on him on the way out is pathetic! How did that Dawkins is old thing work out for you last yr. Franchise players are not easily replaced. I'll take Leinart over Kolb and he's on the bench but you wanna believe we got a diamond in the rough. Welcome back to losing football. Fact

bleedgreen-the chiefs are improved team and it's a road game,,this game is big because it's the only game were KK will get enough playing time to get ready for the season, and we don't need conVick breaking KK's rhythm on 1st and goal, even you will agree with that call, keep conVick off the field.period....wolf.
