What to watch in preseason opener

Les Bowen's three things to watch as the Eagles host New England tomorrow night at the Linc ...

1. The middle linebacking: We ought to see Joe Mays, then Omar Gaither, then Matt Wilhelm. This is one spot where you really want to get a look at the second- and third-string guys, not that you don’t need to see Mays play well, too.

2. LeSean McCoy: Probably won’t see him have to pick up a blitz in a preseason game, but running with the ball and catching it should be on the menu. He looked darned good at Lehigh.

3. The other rookie: That would be Jeremy Maclin. How much did the nine days missed to a contract dispute hurt him? Maclin seems to be in fine shape and is catching the ball well, but his grasp of the offense is a big question.

Here is a list of the inactives for the game and in many cases beyond. Pretty amazing at how long it is ...

Stacy Andrews, knee

Todd Herremans, stress reaction in foot

Victor Abiamiri, strained pectoral muscle

Shawn Andrews, back

Trent Cole, shoulder

Brian Westbrook, ankle

Kevin Kolb, knee

Matt Schobel, calf

Trevor Laws, hamstring

Stewart Bradley, knee surgery

Cornelius Ingram, torn ACL
