What Andy Said, What Andy Meant (post-Giants)

"I know what I've got, as far as coaches and players. I know what we have to do. And we're going to go do it," Andy Reid said today. (Tom Mihalek / AP)

On the ill-fated fourth-and-one play with 2 minutes left in which the Giants stopped Brian Westbrook for no gain:
What Andy said:
"It was what we thought was our best option. We thought that was the right thing to do. We can all go back and second-guess it and you can do that. But that’s the one we chose. If it works, you look good. If it doesn’t, you’re sitting here and getting hammered like I am.’’
What he meant: "Send your complaints, death threats and bags of dog poop to: Marty Mornhinweg, offensive coordinator, c/o the Philadelphia Eagles, One NovaCare Way, Philadelphia, Pa. 19145.’’

On whether he’s worried that the clock is ticking on the Eagles’ playoff hopes:
What Andy said:
``No, I’m not worried about that. I know what I have as far as coaches and players, and I know what we have to do and we are going to do it.’’
What he meant: ``Worried? Nah. That’s why God created the Cincinnati Bengals.’’

On the defense getting gashed for 219 rushing yards to the Giants:
What Andy said:
``As coaches, we can do things schematically to tighten up the run defense, and we’ll do that.’’
What he meant: ``In yet another example of our willingness to spend money to improve our football team, we’ve hired Joe the Plumber to help Jim Johnson fix our run defense.’’

On whether he wishes he had a big back like Brandon Jacobs to use in short-yardage and goal-line situations:
What Andy said:
``I don’t worry about that. I think that I have the best back in the business, and it’s important that I get him going. I think our offensive line takes a lot of pride in him being the best back in the business, and they’ll all reach a little bit deeper in helping him be more successful.’’
What he meant:``What I really wish I had right now was an offensive line that remembered how to run-block.’’

On when guard Shawn Andrews is going to be returning from California:
What Andy said:
``He might have a chance of getting back into town this week. We just have to see how things go with him and his doctor.’’
What he meant: ``We found out this morning that the guy’s on an around-the-world cruise. He sent me a text that said: `Back feels great. You’d love the all-night buffets. Don’t hold a roster spot for me.’’’
