No Westbrook deal in Miami
Daily News staff
UPDATED: Westbrook tweeted that he is leaving Miami without a contract.
"Workout went really well, looked like the 2005 Bwest!! But they need some other players right now so I'm headed back to the farm!!"
EARLIER: Former Eagles running back Brian Westbrook was among at least four running backs who worked out for the Miami Dolphins today, according to reports.
"Hello Miami!!! Killed workout!!!!" Westbrook wrote on Twitter.
Westbrook, 32, spent last season with San Francisco, rushing for 340 yards and four touchdowns in five starts. He also had 16 receptions for 150 yards and a TD.
For his career, he has run for 6,355 yards and 41 touchdowns. He also has 442 receptions for 3,940 yards and three touchdowns.
The Dolphins also worked out former Patriots running back Thomas Clayton and former Cowboy Julius Jones.
Westbrook has been spending time on his horse farm in Maryland and looking to get into an analyst role locally, including some work on WIP.
It is unclear how serious the Dolphins are in siginng a running back or whether they are just looking at the available free agents. The Dolphins cut Larry Johnson during the final roster cutdown and then brought him back when Daniel Thomas suffered a hamstring injury. The Dolphins' feature back is Reggie Bush, along with Lex Hilliard.

Only 32? I would have gussed much older camasbud- love the guy, but he's cooked CosmoK
Go get em' B-West! Miami knows Reggie Bush can't stay on the field more than 5 games at a time. mundiff

Camasbud, 32 sounds young but for a running back he might as well be 52. I dont blame any running back for holding out to get a big paycheck when they are in their 20's because when they hit 30 it's all over and all you have left is a lifetime of limping around. Sewellmatt
If Tiki isn't too old at 36, then Westbrook isn't too old at 32. SteveS11
His chronological age might be 32 but his creaky knees have an effective age of 64. Jerome99RIP
My knees hurt just reading this story. Jim Collins again- B-West had some nice games for San Fran can't blame the guy for trying to stay in the league one of my all time favorite Eagles go get em Brian good luck....Go Eagles

Wait! Bad knees and we haven't signed him yet? What gives? Oh my bad he had a couple of concussions, this disqualifies him as an Eagle. NC Eagle Fan
In this Bush economy, I am sure Westbrook needs to be working. African-Americans, along with women , children, and gays, have been hardest hit by the Bush economic policies that led to years of recessions and, dare a say it, the second Great Depression. I hope Mr. Westbrook can find work and stay away from the soup kitchens, which haven't been this full since the 1930's, thanks to Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Palin, and Perry, who only care about Big Oil and Halliburton, not the average working American. eldiablodelsol2009- You ned to take your meds or something because this may have been the stupidest thing I've ever read on this site.

He would be a great third down back for somebody. He still can contribute, just not as a featured back. Uncle Carm
where are all the Andy haters saying they should have kept Westy, Tra, and Runyan after the 2009 season. All three are out of football. palmyra21- When has Reid ever been bashed for letting an aging player go off into the sunset?..>They give him heck if the players doesn't get replaced.

this is the crappy part of this sport. How soon we forget how AWESOME Bwest was in his prime. He won games for us, fought through injuries and gave us loyals much to boast about. Just a shame. Hopefully he invested wisely and has prepared for this day. Here's to wishing him well going forward. sore richard
can he play MLB section707
He can still contribute as an excellent third down back. If no one gives him a chance though, a national network should definitely give him a chance as an analyst. He would be much better than half the nitwits that are in the studios and or pressboxes calling the games, especially Michael Irvin. Penfold18
eldiablodelsol2009 you are a moron. Last time I looked this was the Obama recession. No plan, no direction...but he does give us hope... we can hope for a new president in the next election. You are a racist democrat with no sense of reality...I guess you like all the free handouts your boy is giving out.

30 TD's receiving not 3....Only the trully great back last more than 10 years. Westbrook was really good not HOF but injuries have been part of his game since 2003 not sure how he would contribute anything more than on 3rd downs or fill in. At some point this season a team will pick him up to replace an injured back....he's got 1 year or so left in him. positive is he does not fumble 12 during course of his career..... glove69- The idea that Obama is spending us into oblivian is a myth. Stop drinking Rush's cool aid, and read this:

BWest should do some recruiting for Villanova...they're toast. bearsfriend
Westbrook should sign a 1 day contract with the Eagles and retire...just like Duce Staley did. SteveS11
Those bashing Obama are blinded by the republican smokescreen. It's funny that the people that would benefit from Obama's plans are the biggest opponents....generally morons from the bible belt who aren't educated enough to understand that religion isn't going to put money in your pocket. Why would someone who can't afford health care be against the plan that would make it accessible? I'll tell you why...religion and tying it to the republican party...they have you suckers in their pocket and that's why the best days of the US are behind us. cous76
Comment removed.- Since the end of World War II, there have been 5 tax cuts to those in the top bracket (1964, 1971, 1981, 1987, 2001). In the years subsequent to those cuts, GDP declined an average of 0.25% and employment shrunk an average of 0.6%. There has been one increase in the top tax bracket in that time (1993), and it was followed immediately by GDP and employment GROWTH of 1.7%... Since 1930, when the top tax bracket's burden is below 40%, GDP growth averages below 4.5%. When the top tax bracket's burden is above 65%, GDP growth averages over 6%.

I have Daniel Thomas on my Fantasy team. Oh no! I knew he was out for a game; but, didn't realize they were looking to get another RB off the scrap heap to steal carries. @SteveS11 - Tiki is too old. Nobody signed him. momeara001
@PhilaLogic - save your breath and your breadth. As Mark Twain said, "the trouble ain't that there is too many fools, but that the lighting ain't distributed right." Sam Crow
Comment removed.- You cower in your sarcasm and insults. If you were an honest person, you would confront the facts presented you. You don't. You SCREAM IN CAPS. You call people names. Your mind is trafficking entirely in emotion. There is no reasoning with you, and you are not interested in determining truth... The facts I offered directly disprove your contention, and yet your argument remains unaltered. The charts offered on the other link go uncontested, but you still attack them... I'll indirectly address your one additional contention. There is a wide body of knowledge supporting the logic of increased government spending during a time of economic contraction. Hoover, for instance, didn't follow this logic -- and the unemployment rate soared from 1929 to 1933 from under 4% to over 25% (and "real" unemployment was far higher). Roosevelt instituted increased spending, and unemployment dropped. And the economy grew. In fact, from 1933 to 1941, fueled by increased government spending, the United States had the 3rd highest GDP growth in a world suffering from economic depression. (Germany and Japan were slightly higher, fueled by their preparations for war.) ... These issues can be debated honestly, but you've made it clear that you have no interest in doing so.

I'm confused. Did Obama sign with the Niners or not? Jim Collins again
@mainlinephan - Ah, I see... But didn't you take a peek at bmack's brother-in-law charts before posting? Remember, things aren't always as black and white (or red and blue) as they seem. Sam Crow

@mainlinephan- oh, of course. propaganda. Are you unemployed? Are you one of the 22% you speak of? I am. I lost my job over a year ago and have been looking for work ever since. I haven't collected a dime of unemployment. But guess what? I don't blame Obama. He can't do anything without compromise on both sides. I'm directly affected by this economy yet I'm not too much of an idiot to see political showboating and narrow minded partisan brinksmanship at its finest. The GOP's strategy for the upcoming elections is to stand in the way of everything and then blame the President and the Democratic Party. It's laughable if it wasn't so serious. Sam Crow

@mainline- backing "lock step?" What the eff are you talking about? Please don't tell me you're one of those people who believes Obama supports a red jacket nazi youth brigade? What's your point about managing a hot dog stand? Are you suggesting another Ross Perot or Steve Forbes should run for President because they are accomplished in business? I bet you were bummed when Trump pulled out of his White House, bid, weren't you? Be honest. ;) He-Hate-Me
