Barring an injury, Michael Vick will be the quarterback of the Eagles for the rest of the season, coach Andy Reid said.
"I didn't appoint him for one week," Reid said today. "That's not what I did."
Asked whether Kevin Kolb will still be with the team beyond the Oct. 19 trade deadline, Reid said, "We'll just have to see."
Kolb is not expected to seek a trade, someone familiar with his thinking told the Daily News.
Reid said Kolb lost his job "because of Michael Vick's accelerated play" and called the change "a subjective decision on my part.”
Reid also said that he did not talk to any coaches or any players before the move was made other than Kolb, whom he talked to both Sunday and Monday. Vick said he was told he would be the quarterback Tuesday night at around 6 p.m., before making a community appearance.
Reid said he did not think the change would affect Kolb’s standing in the locker room. He also said the change would not have happened had Kolb not gotten hurt, presumably because he would not have known how well Vick would play.
Reid said he was unconcerned about the backlash from the fans and the media. Reid said he doesn't mind being the "bad guy."
"There are things that I have to do in a leadership position," he said.
On the change: "There is not a thing that changed with Kevin Kolb. This is about Michael Vick and the way he played."
A clearly disappointed Kolb met with reporters and supported Reid, saying that Reid has always done what is best for him and best for the team.
"I want to be out there," Kolb said. "I feel like I'm a starter in this league but at the same time I'm a team player, I want to do what's best for our team and do what I can for Mike. Again, it's tough, because I feel like I can be out there and I'm ready now, but Andy always takes the best interests of the team first and he always takes the best interests of his players, too."
Kolb said he and Reid had "a lot of different discussions" over the past few days involving "a lot of different scenarios. Basically, it came down to this being best for everybody."
Vick said: "I was surprised, but at the same time, I'm grateful for the opportunity and very humbled by the opportunity. At the end of the day, we want to win football games.
Vick said Kolb said he would be supportive of Vick.
Reid said Vick's play exceeded his expectations. Vick was asked if that was true for him, as well.
"Kinda, sorta," he said. "I know what I can do, but until you get out there and you actually do it, you really don't know if you're going to make plays that you know you're capable of making."

Here's an interesting take from veteran reporter Clark Judge, now with CBSsportsline, on Reid's decision. Jduge suggests that Kolb will have a better chance of succeeding down the road than he would have right now, being judged against Vick's stellar effort last week.

Surgery on fullback Leonard Weaver's left knee found a tear in his ACL and a posterior lateral corner, the Eagles said.
The procedure was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala.
"He had a little bit of nerve damage in there, so we’ll just have to see how that all works out," Reid said. "I had a chance to talk to him today and he’s doing well and he’s very optimistic about things."
Weaver was injured during the opener vs. Green Bay and is on injured reserve.

Hank Baskett, released yesterday by the Eagles, signed with Minnesota and was on the field today for practice, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. He is wearing No. 19, for those of you who might be interested.

The Eagles also announced they have signed wide receiver Rod Harper and safety Jamar Adams to the practice squad.
Harper was originally a rookie free agent signess of the New Orleans Saints in 2008, he spent the preseason in 2009 and part of the regular season with the team before being placed on injured reserve with a broken left foot. He spent training camp this year with the team, but was released before the start of the regular season earlier this month.
Adams was originally signed by the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent following the 2008 draft. He spent most of the last two seasons on Seattle’s practice squad, but also was promoted to the active roster twice, playing in seven career games and posting four special teams tackles.

@Wolf -- don't be such a baby. You pick a QB based on how he plays. Plain and simple, end of story. If you accept, as a team, that a player can be part of that team, then he has the same chance as anyone else. "Crazy" was handing over the starting job to a dude who has proved NOTHING in his entire career in the first place. If they were committed to moving #5, then this was the move they should have done before preseason.
