Vince Young likely to start vs. Seahawks

POSTED: Tuesday, November 29, 2011, 12:04 PM

Looks like a third consecutive start for Vince Young at quarterback for the Eagles when they travel to Seattle on Thursday night.

Michael Vick will not practice today, although he will throw on the side and is making progress, coach Andy Reid said today.

Vick "can't put heavy torque on the ball without feeling some pain," Reid said, adding that Vick won't practice until that issue is resolved.

"We'll take it day-by-day," Reid said.

Young will continue to take snaps with the firs team.

"It’s pretty much the same each week; even from Week 1, Week 2, you know it’s just preparation, you never know what goes on and you always have to be prepared," Young said. "So it’s really nothing too different about it; the only thing is when the head coach tells you you have to start. So overall you just want to stay in the book and stay ready.”

Asked about the hardest part of the short turnaround, Young said, "Game planning [and] just making sure that you know everything that’s going on. I know we crammed everything in today but you just have to get a little extra study time in and I feel like everybody should be OK.”

Nnamdi Asomugha and LeSean McCoy will be limited in practice today. McCoy was added to the injury report Monday with a toe sprain.

King Dunlap (concussion), Moise Fokou (knee) and Jeremy Maclin (hamstring, shoulder) will not practice. Reid said it was more the hamstring injury than the shoulder that was holding back Maclin. He said they need to get the tightness in the hamstring out.

**

Reid said the spat on the sideline between Jim Washburn and Marty Mornhinweg has been worked out. "They're fine," Reid said, adding that "things happen."

Reid said he has spoken with the two coaches and they have talked to each other.

Reid declined to divulge what led to the verbal dispute, in which the two men had to be separated. He said such occurrences are part of the intense gameday atmosphere.

**

DeSean Jackson will start this week after he was benched in the second half against the Patriots. Reid said DeSean needs to move forward off the last game and have a good game this week.

Jackson spoke to reporters yesterday. Here is what he said.

**

Reid said Nate Allen will start at safety and he does not believe Allen is being hampered by his knee injury.

**

Today is the Eagles' only real practice before the Seattle game. Preparation will be more mental than physical, with the extremely short week so late in the season. Reid said one objective is to use stuff from the previous week's gameplan that you practiced but didn't employ. (The running plays should be available, right?)

The Eagles are going to tell themselves they're in the NFC East race until the day the Evil Empire( Dallas) is celebrating on the field with their NFC East champs hats. No point in trying to change their minds. The Eagles CAN play a part of a team celebrating a division title simply by winning Thursday's game, unfortunately, that team is the San Francisco 49ers.

Makes perfect sense to start your 2nd string QB. Why chance further damage to Vick's ribs by playing him now. Young has improved each game, eventually....he will win one because of his play. I'd even consider playing Kafka a some. Make the next 5 games an evaluation period for the draft and next years training camp.

Young has improved each game? Really? He under threw Jackson and the ball got intercepted again, he under threw Celek, he got Avant killed, and you say he has improved. Don't let the yardage fool you. Young is responsible for leaving 3 TD passes short, add that with the 2 Jackson dropped and that's 35 points we didn't get. He was TERRIBLE right along with Jackson. Kafka stinks, he and Young should be cut and draft a QB in the coming draft and groom him for the future. LB should be taken with the first round pick and QB with the second we got in the trade for Kolb.

Why start Young? He is gone after the season and Kafka needs experience. Just another in a long series of questionable decisions bu the Gold Standard.

kafka??? are you fa realz??? for what he's not the future nor the answer!!! young is way better then kafka they are evaluating talent young is the best option at qb at this point!!! just face it the seasons lost/over its best to start preparing for next year!!! & don't start callin for reids head because there aren't any viable candidates to replace him, period end of story!!! we need to use the rest of this season to set the table for next year!!! all the guys that we'll have under contract needs to be eval'd to see if they are worth keeping!!! also we need to start lookin for a d/c i love castillo but hes no match for the experienced o/c's out there i think sunday was pure evidence of that!!! tank to get the best posible draft positions to get the best new crop out there defensive players mainly and some o line men!!!! go birds 2k12!!!

You are right on about andy. He MAY have one losing season out of 13. Yes, we are spoiled. He deserves the right to try and fix this ship. Hey, we won the divison title last year. While most analyst were saying it was a rebuilding year for us. So, we swapped seasons. Ok. Andy has two years left on his contract. I think the ownership should come out and say "Andy will be our coach for at least one more year, then we can re-evaluate."

    and blocks.

Vick not playing with 2 broken ribs when Romo played with 2 broken ribs AND a partially collapsed lung. D-Jax alligator arming TWO touchdown passes. Reid never answering questions directly. Ed Rendell actually having a permanent seat in the Post Game Show. Ladies and Gentlemen, THIS is your Dream Team!!!!!

I've been telling these nut cases for weeks that was a bald face lie Dallas told when they said Romo was playing with broken ribs and a collapsed lung. A teflar vest and pain killing shots wouldn't help. The collapsed lung alone would cause that man to have breathing problems and add broken ribs to that, playing NFL football at the QB position would have been improbable and impossible. These guys need to check a medical dictionary.

There is no way Romo has ran around that field without missing a beat with a collapsed lung and broken ribs, collapsed lungs alone would have definitely hospitalized him especially with broken ribs. The Cowboys just wanted people to think Romo was tough, especially since we know he's not. These people know better than that, they just want to blame Mike for something.

Ha ha ha. He's not a great QB, but you have to enjoy the "flipper throw" when he delivers the ball.

Or how it goes up high in the air like a pop-fly to center field.

There are endless drinking games you could play with Vince Young as QB

9 - 7 still wins the division. The G-Men are doing their typical late season collapse. The Girls barely beat Miami at home last week. If Romo gets hurt they're the new Indianapolis Colts. The Eagles are not dead unless the Seahawks beat them.

Moronweig is Reid's longtime buddy, no doubt Reid sided with Moronweig. Washburn will be gone at end of year and his buddy Howard Mudd will go with him. Just hope that Reid goes as well.

Charmaine, dear......Mr. Romo absolutely played with broken ribs and a collapsed lung. You see, he is not SOFT unlike YOUR 100 Million Dollar QB that you are stuck with. You see, when a QB puts the team 1st, he will play through pain. You would think with all the pain Vick saw on his doggie ranch, he would suck it up a little. Your team is SOFT!

You can believe that bull if you want I know better, if he has a collapsed lung, it would require hospitalization just to inflate the lung, and then broken ribs on top of that, how do you think he was breathing, even you can't be that stupid.......but on second thought to make this comment I guess you can. You can keep the dog jokes I don't give a swat about a dog. Oh yeah your team has to lie to make others think they have a reeeeeal tough qb. LOL LOL LOL

Why play VY? The season is over. VY will not be back for another year, that is a certainty. Play Kafka and see if he can be the back up next year. Of course that would be might too strenuous thinking for AR.

@DJ Reid sux . Get him outta here and Castillio (I work hard, I can do this) has to go. Reid cannpot evaluate talent or coaches (Castillio) obviously. Suppossedly many teams will hire him (please!). Plenty of qualified candidiates for here. Chucky!!!! And @ Bobby V your Cowgirls are going nowhere. If they should happen to win this Division (2nd worst in football) they will be 1 & done! Romo ..Playoffs...LOL Don't make me laugh! He is the biggest playoff choke in football, along with the rest of his playgirls, Cowgirls.

Hey Andy, If you can't hear us then read this...FIRE ANDY! We are stuck with Vick for 2 more years. Start Kafka! Get him experience. After the season is over (it is already) hire a new Head Coach, dump the staff! Draft a top QB this year. Make sure the new coach can eveluate talent, understands how to use the best RB in football, hires a quality def coordinator and a smart off coordinator, gets a couple of BIG linebackers and gets a secondary that can hit & tackle!

VY is a one year rental, so when the eagles lose their 8th game my guess is Kafka 2011 will begin. AR would have no incentive to play VY once they're out of contention. Of course, logic doesn't necessarily apply to the Eagles, does it?

Kafka is not the future for this team. He has no arm. VY is their best chance of winning. Comparing Vick's ribs to Romo's--what are you, an MD? My hat's off to Washburn for exposing MM for what he is: a poor OC, and as lousy as AR on game day. This team needs 2 new coordinators and a head coach.

If VY won't be back next year and Reid still is playing VY, that likely means Reid has written off Kafka as the backup QB next year. It also might indicate that the Eagles will draft a top QB to sit behind Vick for a year. Andrew Luck may not be possible but Barkely from USC may be doable. Vick gone after next year and Barkely takes over. Of course that can't happen as long as the idiot Reid is around. Reid must have a black QB.

Agree with your last sentence---AR needs to go on the Dr.Drew rehab show for his perversion, addiction, obsession with afro-american QB's. lst Garcia saved the one season but right back to BOZO when playoffs started--2ond-Kolb lost his starting position to a injury and never given a chance when healthy, so now we have PEE WEE league size injury prone Vick and Mental Miget Young to feed Reids addiction.

UNBLOCKED pass rushers killed this offense early-on [No time to find a receiver]. Vick's broken ribs play was because of this. Injured QB's are ineffective. Remember when Brady got knocked out for the season? How about Peyton Manning out all season and maybe forever? Someone needs to GLUE that Kevlar rib vest onto Vick.

Romo's different - he had broken ribs, a collapsed lung, Ebola virus, and open heart surgery at halftime.

Of course most of his good plays are a 5-yard shovel pass that turns into a 5000 yard gain.

They're not playing Kafka, a guy who looks like he might have upside, because that would be admitting that the season is over. Hellooooo! Jeffy, Joey and Andy - who doesn't already know that? Play Kafka over the next 5 games and find out if he can or can't!
