Vince: In My Mind, I'm Starting, But ...
Les Bowen, Daily News Staff Writer
Asked if he is starting Sunday night at the Giants, as seems extremely likely, Eagles quarterback Vince Young said: "In my mind, definitely," but that the decision is up to Eagles coach Andy Reid.
Reid said Michael Vick (ribs) and wideout Jeremy Maclin (shoulder, hamstring) are being listed as questionable for the game, even though neither Vick nor Maclin has practiced this week.
Reid acknowledged today that Vick has never started a game without practicing at all. He said Vick was feeling "a bit better" after breaking two ribs in last Sunday's loss to the Cardinals.
DeSean Jackson said the Eagles will "try to keep it as simple as we can, not put too much pressure on" Young, who has taken just three regular-season snaps as an Eagle. Jackson said Young is a good quarterback who has beaten the Giants for the Tennessee Titans. "We really just need him to go out there and give us a chance to win," Jackson said.
Young, a two-time Pro Bowl performer with the Titans, was asked if he felt he had something to prove. He repeated an answer he had given reporters Thursday.
It's not about me at all. It's about this team. I want to go out and lead the guys to victory."
"Guys are really studying" to get the 3-6 Eagles past the 6-3 Giants, Young said. "Not having Jeremy Mac, Riley (Cooper) will get a chance to go in and step up, make some plays as well. I really feel like practice was pretty good, tempo was good, DeSean Jackson was doing a great job, everybody overall stepped in and took care of their responsbilities."
Cooper, by the way, said he did not see former Florida roommate Tim Tebow's final-minutes heroics against the Jets Thursday. "I don't get NFL Network," Cooper said. But he said he isn't surprised, either that Tebow is 4-1 as the Broncos' starter, or that "it isn't always pretty.'
Cooper had the same obseervation as Thursday night's announcing crew -- Tebow has "it."
"He's a winner," Cooper said.
I just love it when all the pundits pick against the Eagles, I also dread when all the experts pick the Eagles!! JJFN
Young epitomizes the skilled yet under achieving talent on this team. All goes back to coaching and accountability. Neither players or the coaches have any accountability, therefore there are no consequences for this team. We need to hit the ownership in the pocket book, stop going to the games, stop buying the merchandise and parking. Need to send a message to the ownership or else there will be no incentive for them to change yourdaddy!

Dream on Batt13
Nice headline. And in my mind Andy Reid has been giving McCoy (one of, if not, the best RB in the NFL) the ball this whole season, forced defenses to change schematics, THEN started throwing the ball and we are 8-1. But that's just in my mind. Like how Andy didn't call a time-out against the Bills giving their coach the opportunity to get the punter off the field (INSTEAD OF PUNTING TO DJAX) and instead draw the Eagles offsides. In my mind, that never happened. Or when the genius went for it on 4th and 1 on HIS OWN 48 YARD LINE giving the Giants the ball back in his own zone instead of punting to Eli Manning and try to pin him inside his own zone. And in my mind...forget it, we are stuck with this fat idiot and he will never, ever change, ever. And he will NEVER win a Super Bowl with this team. girouxforpresident
like what the late Biggie would say......"It was all a dream....." LOL Cowboys204
WE ARE SUPER-BOWL BOUND!!!!! DreamTeamWeaver
V.Y. has a winning resume,a big arm and can scramble as we all know.
He may not know the playbook that well but I actually feel good about him as the starter...Vick's been having an aweful year and maybe, just maybe a change at QB this week will be a positive...look for Young to lead the Birds to a W Sun. night...just a feeling. greenbloodVAEagle
If Vick really can't go, Kafka should start. He has the familiarity with the offense and has shown he can handle it. Without a lot of aerial threats, I'd say run the ball, send McCoy and Lewis at the Giants' D, and play ball control. On defense...well, hope that Eli has another bad game. I don't see them stopping much of anything with the Wide 9.
Right now, the Eagles have to see what they've got for the future. I doubt they will win, but if they play a specific game plan without this horrible run and shoot offense, they could pull an upset. MidStaterUXB
GO VINCE, BEAT GIANTS sodone
If the Eagles defense doesn't shut down the Giants, it will be a long day regardless of who is at QB. RetailWatcher
Personally I want to see what he can do. Say what you will about him but he wins games. Look at his record with Tennessee. I would like to see how he does during a full game when he preps with the starters and knows the game plan and knows he will be the man the whole game. blackknight
dream team.
dream gameplan.
dream study.
dream throws to the right colored jersey.
dream win.
dream season still matters. bloodymess
Doesn't matter who is playing qb if they can't cover the Giants receivers, if they stop playing in the 3rd quarter, if the Eagles can't stop the Giants pass rush...too many ifs! This one will be lost before the 4th quarter. dapmman
Jeez, we got Sandra Freaking Bullock for a quarterback!! It's only a couple of cracked ribs. This is the NFL, not the kiddie league. mario1239
Vince will get the dream to come true. primo
Vince Young is Pork Muscle chief_jaysons
Might as well put Young in there and start a QB controversy if he has a great game. ej610
I like Vick a lot (even though he hasn't lived up to expectations this year) but c'mon he's not in any shape to give us a fighting chance against the Giants weekend. And, if he does, then we're just asking for him to really get hurt. For some reason, I say Young steps in (and with the Eagles playing now for pride) leads the Birds to a "W" on Sunday night. Go Eagles. Even if we can't make the Playoffs, it's still fun to support your team. CB4
In my mind, I see another loss. terry_l
In my mind I'm starting too! HeelYes
Folks, they want to keep the Giants preparing for Vick. That's why they don't say during the week that Young is the starter. It's a tactic coaches do all the time. C'mon people. Get a brain. soulman386
Great Vince...now if you could only learn the playbook.....and after the game or even now admit you were the one to brand the club the dream team and it was your immaturity and stupidity that allowed the words out of your mouth and that you are now apologizing to your team for your dumbness..... nuggett
I would think a back up making what 5 mill? should be the next option!!! elfman
cmon vince you have to redeem the dream team. wolf 4
