Vick's Tough Night

POSTED: Saturday, August 21, 2010, 12:48 AM

The last thing Andy Reid wants from Michael Vick is turnovers, but those have been the first things he’s been getting in the Eagles’ first two preseason games.

Last week against Jacksonville, Vick had 2 giveaways, losing a fumble and throwing an interception. In Friday night’s 22-9 loss to the Bengals, he had 2 interceptions and completed just 1 of 5 passes for 6 yards.

In his defense, the second-team offensive line that was supposed to be protecting him, didn’t do a very good job. But Vick knows that’s no excuse for the 2 turnovers.

``I was under some pressure, but that’s part of the game,’’ he said. ``I’ve gotta use my legs more and try not to make a bad situation worse.’’

Both of Vick’s interceptions came in the third quarter. Cornerback Morgan Trent picked off a pass for wide receiver Riley Cooper on the very first play of the second half. Later in the period, a pass down the middle of the field was picked off by safety Kyries Hebert.

``The first one, I could’ve made a better read and gone through my progressions,’’ he said. ``The second one, I just got hit. I had a guy open and got hit. Sometimes that happens. But you don’t want to have it happen, especially after you’ve already thrown an interception.’’

Kevin Kolb played the first half and Vick replaced him in the third quarter. Rookie Mike Kafka played the fourth quarter. But for the second straight preseason game, Vick was inserted for Kolb a couple of times. He lined up in the shotgun the first time and ran the read-option, handing off to fullback Leonard Weaver, who picked up three yards. On the Eagles’ next possession, he came in on a first-and-10 at the Cincinnati 35 and ran for 13-yard gain.

``I like (being used like) that,’’ Vick said. ``It keeps defenses off-balance. It’s a change of pace. I was able to go in and make a positive play, make a first down. We have to mix it up and give defenses different looks so they don’t know what’s coming.’’

mike conVick is not a very good QB and this should dampen the calls for his starting, however conVick is the best running back on the team and Big Red should start using in a two back offense about ten plays a game..anyone have jeff garcia's number??......wolf.

as much as I like vick, he was terrible and i mean terrible. why was he smiling when he threw those picks and all he did was run the ball. Vick has to get better or the eagles will cut or trade him and I dont think he is ready to be a starter in the nfl. Vick needs to learn ball security.

So far, from what I have seen, putting Vick in as a change of pace only gives the defense a free stop for a down. Like watching Canadian football

Andy, stop, this Vick thing isn't working. And I'm not even talking about his off-the-field behavior.

He has proven he is not as good of a player in Andy's system. Time to cut the cord and get an experienced backup in here i.e. Garcia. Cut him now and maybe he can catch on somewhere else, fair to all that way.

Yeah it was a tough night for Vick, when the 2nd unit offensive line reminded me of a screen door on a submarine. I clearly remember one of those picks Vick being hit as he was releasing. Lets not worry about Vick, lets start worrying about that O-line!

To give an objective assessment of his skill sets, he needs to manage a few quarters with the 1st team.

Thought 5 had to go because he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn and had that bad, bad attitude...you know smilin' after bad passes & interceptions? So, conVick?

bad night for vick. period. but that o line was HORRIBLE! btw, kolb didnt do anything special at all. i know its just the second preseason game, but i'm worried about our offense. we cant score in the red zone and thats exactly where we will need vick and his legs

mir710, Kafka is a 3rd string rookie backup. The concern is Vick is a vetern QB,who many posters think, if you read last weeks comments should start. You are not seeing those post this week. He is turning the ball over too much, and if you want to insert him into the game during a drive for a wildcat, it could cost you the ball.
