Vick has fan in judge who sentenced him

POSTED: Wednesday, December 8, 2010, 8:33 AM

The man who sentenced Michael Vick to nearly two years in prison for his role in a dogfighting ring is rooting for him to succeed.

"He's an example of how the system can work," said U.S. District Court Judge Henry E. Hudson told the Washington Post. "He's having a terrific season. I'm very happy for him. I wish him the best of success."

Hudson is back in the spotlight as he is expected to rule in a case challenging the constitutionality of the overhaul of the health care system.

Since we do football here, and not politics, we will move on to the next item, but thought his comments on Vick were worth passing along.

**

Bodog.com has updated its Super Bowl odds and the Eagles have dropped to 9-1 to win from 7-1 over the last 2 weeks. Green Bay and New Orleans are also 9-1.

New England is the favorite at 9-2. Pittsburgh and Atlanta are 13-2.

They are 4-1 to win the NFC as are the Packers. Atlanta is the favorite at 5-2.

**

The Eagles return to practice today, with everyone expecting to be ready. Andy Reid said on his radio show that Asante Samuel (knee) and Juqua Parker (hip) would practice.

In his column for the Daily News today, Winston Justice wrote that he expected to practice. Justice has a hyperextended knee.

Kolb is the backup and Kolb is behind Vick in the banner. That appears appropriate to me - esepcially the way this season has gone.

I'd rather have McCoy, Maclin, or Asante on the banner...they mean more to this team than Kolb, don't ya think Philly_Mike?

In other news...Mr. Nils Lofgren has resurfaced on a national level now. ESPN has printed his pathetic attempt to further drag Michael Vick's name through the mud. For those of you who are interested, you can find the article here: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/commentary/news/story?id=5876114.

hmm...I wonder if this Judge has seen the transcripts that all the unchristian types keep harping about?

Philly_Mike: I don't hate Kolb. I'm happy that the Eagles have a capable backup but I think that Vick is the better QB this season & it doesn't make sense to start your 2nd best person at any position. I think some of the "haters" don't really hate Kolb, they're just sick of some of the KK "lovers" who blindly think he's the only answer at QB & they're just reacting, imo. Then again...some (on both QB's) just blindly hate for whatever reason.

Move the Kolb picture to the classified section under the heading: "Rodeo Clown looking for employment."

yea, the system works great if you have a natural phenomenal talent that allows you to make millions of dollars in an industry that doesn't care what kind of character you possess. Many jobs wouldn't hire someone with a felony conviction. If Vick were some 3rd string lineman who never had a chance, i'm guessing he may not be fairing as well as he is right now.
Oh yea....what a system!!!! Hail the rich!

Felons can't vote, they shouldn't be playing pro sports. Way to go Eagles, sacrificing acquiring players with class and character for a win on the field. Vick is a scumbag and so are his fans.

birdsfaninnc: maybe you should read the U.S. Constitution. It would enlighten you about all sorts of things you're obviously oblivious to.
Then you could consult a priest, rabbi or imam and sort out your hater problem. Not to worry, you too can be redeemed.

Mr. Nils Lofgren played guitar for Jerry Lee Lewis...a guy who married his 13 year-old second cousin. And he is someone who should be given a second look?

Anyway, enjoy your lunch everyone. You too, Vick!

Philly_Mike face it. Kolb stinks and his picture would probably have a negative effect for anyone else seeking employment opportunities if it is moved to the classified section.

Umm excuseme Amanda718 - who exactly are you to say who can, or can't play in the NFL? Are you a top NFL scout, or just some self righteous witch, who needs to worry about cleaning out the cobwebs in her knickers than what is going on in the NFL? Vick isn't putting laws into place, or determining the taxes we pay...I hate to say it but he is in a job that relies heavily on athleticism and talent, not book smarts and a clean record. So quit trying to judge pro athletes and bake me a pie!

aMAN718, Coolbreeze10 and birdsfoolinnc all sing the same old song everytime thay post on here. It goes "I'ma maniac, maniac of hate. And I hate everyone that disagrees with me!" Sing it haters! And while you're at it, sing it while running in rush hour traffic on Roosevelt Blvd. Dummies! Meanwhile, Mike Vick is having an MVP season and there isn't a single thing any of you haters can do about it. Doesn't that make y'all mad as a dog? Oops. Doggone it. Oops again.
GO MIKE VICK GO! GO EAGLES!

I like Kolb and think his performances this year indicate that he can be a very successful starter in the NFL with more experience. That said, he's a backup - get him of the banner. It's not like the Eagles are lacking in stars to replace him up there. While you're at it, maybe have a real graphic artist do the banner so it doesn't look like it was appropriated from a geocities site circa 1998.

Actually it is political; politics is always an underlying factor as an American citizen. It’s the pursue of capitalism. Rather it’s the million dollar contract or the income of a journalist. We should pick our careers on talent and desire. Some incomes are more rewarding than others, and this is certainly an example. Capitalism has a liberal competing element, and if the capital wasn’t as high, then we would not be discussing this success story. Michael Vick had something he wanted desperately to get back to, and the only way of achieving such is to submit to social norms. Not just to be make money playing football, but to excel at the things he loves. Excelling at his trade enables happiness, and facilitated humbleness and the importantance of a Father/Son/Leader.

I agree Philly_Mike, it’s crazy to belittle Kevin Kolb ability. If he was on a typical Super Bowl contending team, then Vick wouldn’t have this opportunity. You can’t coach genetics. Players like Drew Brees, Warren Moon, Michael, and now Troy Smith are blessed to have/had the opportunity to play QB in the NFL. Height is so important in that position because the pocket QB’s have to throw from, but when your fence is higher than your gun then you gotta make deeper drop steps, and move your protective pocket. Randall Cunningham could have destroyed defenses with Peyton or Tom mechanics, which can be coached. I hope Vick remain a student. After Vick master throwing over the LB's and putting it in front of the SS's, then it’s gonna get even more exciting. Yes, I'm a fan Amanda... but do you feel the same about all felons? Should Martha Stewart have the liberty to still pursue her profession? I'll like to read your comment. I respect your opinion. I just want to know if it’s authentic.

I would like to know what all you Vick haters expect him to do. Should he just rollover and play dead (pun intended) or try and be the best he can be. Let's face it he's in a no win situation and doing the best he can in a career he chose a long time ago, I for one give him props for not letting the haters get to him. Anyone can change and I believe he has, he paid the price a heavy one I might add, for choosing the wrong friends and buying into the dog thing which goes on in the south like a friday night football game. Leave him alone and let him do his job if he fails well at least he tried his best and will never go back to his old ways. Isn't that what our socalled correctional system is supposed to do turn bad guys into good guys, well in this case it worked and I;m happy to see it did, whether for Vick or any number of felons who try to get their life straight. Go Eagles!!
I wish him nothing but the best and hope the rest of you do too.

PANTHRO 22 thanks for the chuckle. Those DOG JOKES MAAN YUK YUK yuk thanks. I believe that Kev Kolb is a very important part of this team if only as a backup to Mike Vick, someone very capable of stepping in and win games. It has just been unfortunate to first sit and learn behind my favorite QB DMAC and new favorite Mike Vick that's tough. Mabus u are on point man I feel what ur saying. Life must be terribly difficult for some of these unforgiving types posting. I just pray that should the need arise for y'all to get a second chance that y'all be given that chance. Go Eagles. SEE U IN DALLAS
