Vick says he should have played 'a bit more'
Daily News staff
Eagles quarterback Michael Vick reaffirmed his desire to start for another team but declined to speculate which team that might be, during an interview with the Daily Press in his hometown of Newport News, Va.
Vick, entering the last year of his contract, is due a $1.5 million roster business on March 5. The Eagles seem likely to pay the bonus and then work out a trade.
"I accomplished a lot, probably should have been out there a bit more," Vick told David Squires during a 30-minute conversation at his aunt's real estate office. "But I totally understood my position coming in. And I couldn't override any decision. … So moving forward, what I want to do is get into position where I have my own team and becoming a starting quarterback again."
Vick also dismissed a statement by a Playgirl magazine spokesman of an offer to pose nude in exchange for a $1 million donation to PETA.
"I don't know where that came from, but I won't comment on it," he said. "I'm focused on trying to put myself in a position where I can excel, so I won't entertain that."
Vick also touted his "The Michael Vick Project" on BET. He said future episodes will be more uplifting than the beginning episodes, which focused on dogfighting.
"There were a lot of people who really wanted to know what I was going through," he said. "There were a lot of inquiring minds and people who wanted to talk. There was lots of 'we support you' and 'we love you,' and a lot of smiles ... And that was even before I was incarcerated ...
"I always knew I'd have the opportunity to do that type of show because any athlete who's been through a lot of controversy would have an opportunity to do that. So I just wanted to put mine together in my own way."

One more item to pass along, as we told you yesterday, ESPN's Scott Van Pelt was the victim of Captain Janks on "SportsCenter," when Janks called in and pretended to be Brian Westbrook. (The link includes video.)
During his radio interview on 97.5 The Fanatic yesterday, Westbrook said former teammate Ike Reese called him to tell him about the impersonator. "I don't know where they got that guy," Westbrook said.
As for the other victim here, ESPN's Van Pelt, he seemed to take the whole thing in stride.
"Many of the most respected anchors in the business, folks far more respected than me, have been on the wrong end of Howard's loyal following," Van Pelt told SI.com. "Here's a little-known fact. I was on the receiving end [of a prank call] back in the day at The Golf Channel. So, I believe this places me in rarified air. How many people have twice on live TV heard the dreaded words 'Howard Stern'? I'm just bummed that my 'Hi, YouTube' comment was not caught on camera, because I knew that's where this moment was headed."
- Since you didn't play up to standards ConVick I think your punishment should be the same as what you meted out to those dogs.
wait, GasolineRainbows says someone has a fruity screenname? notch44

I never knew Michael Vick had such high morals. I mean he can bash in dogs' skulls, but he won't show off his naughty bits for a good cause. Oh wait, that's because he obviously has none. No real man would have done what he did for years and enjoyed it. It's so ironic that he didn't pose because he certainly w_h_o_r_e_d himself out to BET when he made that mockumentary. Declaring that the later episodes will be more uplifting because they won't involve his dogfighting, but how he was able to commit such heinous acts and then go on to make millions by being a glorified bench warmer. "There were a lot of people who really wanted to know what I was going through." Yes, Michael Vick-tim IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU YOU YOU! This guy is beyond pathetic. He's not a man. He's a whiny little baby who just needs to shut up and go away. Roland Orzabal & Curt Smith
Thank you GasolineRainbows and DennyP. How telling that his BET show was done "his way." of course it was because, no reputable production company or netowrk would want their name attached to this self-serving, self-promoting, woe-is-me, racist,Michael Vick pity party. I wish he had played more too--more playing time, the more chances we had to see his spinal cord severed and watch him leave on a stretcher!!! mcaraffa
Celtic_13 try running a 4.2 40 then you may know what it's like, until then keep dreaming smithazz
Frenchmontana- What community college did you flunk out of? I am disgusted by Stallworth et al...BUT THE EAGLES SIGNED VICK, not stallworth et al... Dr. Michael
Ron Mexico: "I should have played more and lied better about killing dogs." The Eagles are a groundhog day 11 year father of the year Andy reid joke... Dr. Michael- He should have shut up more. He has no room to say anything other than he's grateful for the opportunity. That said, he should have played more. :-)
The Eagles actually used him pretty well, getting some key first downs and making teams think a bit in their week of preparations. For a 3rd string guy, out of shape the first month or two, he played a lot. We've heard enough of him this year to know it'd be a mistake for any GM to bring Vick onto their team as a starter. I'm hoping Al Davis or someone will make that mistake and give us a 3rd rounder. Nothing wrong with the Eagles' experiment, unless they keep Vick here. tacklinjoe
Pretty funny that "GasolineRainbows" is mocking "FrenchMontana" for having a fruity screen name. Thanks for the good laugh, i needed it. mrbean
Comment removed.- he should of played more, end of story. he'll play more next year somewhere else (RAMS) azguz

Blah blah blah, look at all these Vick haters, were glued to your tv to watch him play before he had this mishap. Hey I got an idea, GET OVER IT, GET OVER IT. Repeat it to yourself, GET OVER IT. I swear all these people who curse this man act as if they are perfect and never in their life have they done wrong. How come you people dont get outraged when you here about an athlete getting drunk, driving and then killing someone, like Jim Leyritz of the Yankees and Donte Stallworth of the Ravens? How come you're not outraged like this when you hear about little kids being murdered, raped and molested and then their suspects are freed early on parole? Shut the hell up and get your panties outta a bunch, yea what Vick did was wrong Im not saying it wasnt, but guess what? dogs can be replaced, humans cant. You sad sad people are gonna be upset about this for the rest of your lives everytime you hear about Vick, sucks for you. Pathetic. Frenchmontana- i want him back. i want to trade mcnabb if possible and have vick and kolb battle it out and may the best man win. but i must admit, i like the option of having vick around. dude is exciting!

He should have played more.....it would have made him a better trade prospect and maybe the sstarter this year...........but who knows more than our resident genius coach who is smarter than anyone in the NFL and has won 11 Super Bowls since he came here to prove it.....oh he didn't...my bad.....NO actully Jeff's bad for giving him and extension... nuggett
actually I think he should have played more, and didn't because of McNabb's feelings. McNabb and maybe Reid feared the O would sacrifice rhythm if Vick had too many snaps. But I would have utilized him for at least 10 more snaps per game, so that that facet of the O gained some rhythm and added a dimension to O that was lacking. Look at the Dallas games . Offense had NO rhythm and was predictable. retzlaff
I often wonder what it would be like to go to jail for a few years and then have everything I lost handed right back to me without ever doing a single thing to deserve it. celtic_13
they both suck... if Mcnabb is 10x better than Vick that only makes him a 2nd tier QB at best... not a big Eagle follower but i do know that you have talent at QB on the BENCH.. let the kid play.. let him take his lumps and make the team his.. Mcflabb and Vick can go elsewhere.. maybe then i will be able to appreciate Eagle football.. bbrown
Comment removed.- vick sucks. just look at his numbers. i'm not the biggest mcnabb fan, but he is 10x the QB vick is. anybody who thinks differently is an idiot.
There is a gulf of difference between "bit more play" and "should have played more". I understand the motivation for tabloid journalism, but it should not be used at every opportunity. Seed
Amen DennyP oldhat
P.Even....The more Vick plays, the more he shows his deficiencies as a QB. He had proven that before his days as jailbird. andrew69
He's right, he should have played more. Eagles wasted the opportunity to use his skills. P Even
I'm sick of hearing about this POS. At first I didn't really care. The more he keeps talking the more I get aggravated. Eagles did this POS a favor pulling him out of the gutter and he always has these pseudo-backhanded comments. Just stop talking, be happy you have a pay-check and sit by the phone to wait for your agent to let you know where you've been traded. I hope they dump Vick for any kind of pick and just move on. Unnecessary distraction and annoyance. We dump Dawkins and BWest and keep POS like this and the Andrews sisters. DennyP
