Vick: ‘I didn’t finish’

Here are highlights from Michael Vick’s postgame news conference after the Eagles' loss to the Packers:
On the last play: “The last play we had four verticals. I took a shot at the end zone. I could have checked it down to the back. I got greedy and took a shot at the end zone. I didn’t throw the right ball that I wanted to and it got picked out. It was a bad way to go out, but at least I went out swinging … It’s hindsight now. It’s something I have to learn from.”
On the mistakes: “We set ourselves back. We had a lot of penalties. A lot of plays we didn’t make. We still managed to make plays and do the right things. We just didn’t put enough points on the board.”
On his ankle injury late in the game: “It wasn’t that bad. I rolled it. It was nothing that was going to keep me from going back into the game.”
On his feeling: “This one hurt more than any of my previous seasons that I played a full season and had an opportunity to play in the playoffs. I just think, I didn’t finish … I expected so much out of myself. I know in coming back and having an opportunity that I could play at a high level in this offense. It’s just disappointing to myself and my teammates that we didn’t finish the way we wanted to. I certainly felt I could do a lot of things better and I didn’t do it.”
On the season overall: “It was a great season. The ultimate goal is the Super Bowl. To do that everybody has to be on one chord, in tune … We didn’t do that tonight. We had a great season but that’s not enough.”
Do you want to sign a long-term contract: “As of right now, I’m not thinking about the contract situation. I’m thinking about what happened 30 minutes ago. It’s unfortunate you can’t go out and correct it the next week. You have to deal with it in your own way, keep believing in yourself and keep pushing. There is always next year and you get another opportunity.”
Do you want to be here next year? “I hope so. In this business, you don’t do. We’ll see. I’ll stay optimistic. I still feel I can play at a high level for the next couple of years, but I still have a lot to learn.”
On mood on the last drive: “I thought we were going to win the game. I had an upbeat feeling about myself. I felt like I was in control … I wish it would have had a better outcome.”

Any haters who put this loss on Vick is a pure idiot. Reid refused to commit to the run to keep the Packers off balance. The Packers ran the ball 33 times with an unknown running back but Reid has a 1k back in Shady who only has 12 touches. If Akers makes one of those two we are in field goal range before Vick make the underthrow. Our D can't make a critical stop when we need on in the red zone. Our O-line has been a revolving door all season. We can only take from this game that we are the youngest team in the NFL and our young players Coleman, Chaney, Nate Allen, Brandon Graham, Rley Cooper etc all got a lot on experience they can learn from. This doesn't hurt as bad as other losses because we surely we not expected to be here. Vick made a poor throw but unlike 5(who I still appreciate) owned up to it in the presser and that's what you want out of your leader. Hopefully we'll franchise him and they'll all grow from this experience. Go Birds!! Good season!! Facts before ignorance
Can't wait for all the Vick haters to come out and berate him now that the season is over. Can't blame the man for what happened today. The defense was pathetic and the offense was less than mediocre. Too many injuries, and the playmakers didn't make the necessary plays. Let's hope for a good return when Kolb hits the market. Solid season guys, but it's time for the Flyers and Phils to see what they can do! ASils- Haters couldn't care less. For them it's not about the game. They're happy to have a chance to stick the knife in to fans every chance they get. They're similar to humans but lack the capacity to forgive.

Bottom line, we lost because of a kicker. No other way to cut it.
Akers needs to be challenged in training camp next year, or whenever the next training camp is.... warreninrochester
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED!!!! THE PEOPLE WANT MCCNABB!!! ThinkTwice- Say whatever you want about him but Vick showed the fans what the coach never does: honesty and a commitment to win the SB. It was bad enough seeing this loss but having to watch the diabetic slob try to scam his way through another press conference, well, after 11 years it's infuriating. Bob1
- BTW by honesty I mean coming clean at the press conference and admitting that he should not have thrown into the end zone. Bob1
- Heck yeah you didn't finish the job Vick! The biggest problem is that Vick doesn't have the mean streak that already embedded in Kolb. Growing up on the mean streets of Stephenville, TX Kolb knows he has to have a strong mentality just to survive. We need a QB who will get into his players faces and demand brilliance. Kevin Kolb can do that as even if he threw 3 pick sixes he would get all of those back on the next two drives. Kevin Kolb is well respected in this locker-room and this team is crushed that the best player was held out to appease Mike Vick's ego. It's time to give this team and fanbase what it truly deserves which is a true blue All-American as the face of the franchise. Wolf Out!
- Kevin. I happen to agree with your post.
But please explain "if he threw 3 pick sixes he would get all of those back on the next two drives." How does 21 points = 14 points? The math escapes me.
- Wait...was this post a joke?
RhondaBillings - Is he running for President? Because you are definitely running his campaign. The mean streets of Stephenville, TX....PLEASE. If your Kolb was so great Vick would have never been thrusted to start. True Blue Americans EARN their position, not have it given to them on a silver platter. Its obvious you are attracted to Kevin Kolb. I ask that you put your personal feelings aside and talk logical football. ewsavage
Insanity is repeating the same thing over and over and again and expecting a different result, fire Andy Reid. From Center over on the right the OL is horrible. The DL is poor, followed by weak linebackers and a porous secondary. borncynic
To Vick: You are safe with Reid, it took him 11 years to figure out that #5 was a fraud....just hope that Lurie does not fire Reid and bring in Shanahan. That would be bad news Mike...he would figure out in just a matter of games that you are not super bowl material. Carlos2
Let Vick go. Let Kolb be the guy. We're not going to win it all either way. Not possible to do that without: (1) a big, strong receiver (we don't have one); (2) a decent red zone defense (ours is pathetic); (3) a serviceable offensive line (our is horrible); and (4) a running game. Anybody but me see how many times Asante got torched this afternoon? Yep, he's a stud all right. DallasEagle
