Vick at No. 20 in NFL countdown
Daily News staff
We have written a few times here on Eagletarian about the NFL Network's countdown of the top 100 best players of 2010, as voted by the players themselves.
Tonight's edition featured the countdown from No. 20, and it began with Eagles quarterback Michael Vick.
So, the question on the table is whether that is too low? Hard to see how folks might view that as too high.
In case you are wondering, Nnamdi Asomugha checked in at No. 18.
Vick was a contender for Most Valuable Player and won the Comeback Player of the Year award. The turnaround from being out of football to a starting quarterback for a playoff team has been impressive.
The reaction was swift -- and what isn't these days with Twitter -- ranging from "I don't see how there are 19 players better than Michael Vick" to "I'm convinced the Top 100 players is rigged if Michael Vick came in No. 20 and not No. 1 or No. 2. At least top 3" to "he has to do it again this season to break the top 20."
Where do you stand?
- Dude are you serious, you're actually saying he accomplished nothing as a falcon? 4 probowls, nfc title game, first to beat the pack in lambeau. People want to keep pulling up passing numbers but he is not your typical qb. The falcons ranked top 5 in rushing every year he played in 12 or more games and where did the eagles rank last year in rushing for a team that never runs the ball. The eagles were a better deep ball team last year than any team in the league and you say he hasn't done anything. You say he played well against the bad teams what about the two green bay games, the jags, the colts, and the giants twice.

Thats crazy, 19 QB's better than Vick. You must know nothing about FootBall! He should have at least be in the top 5 in the league. selliotte1

Top 12 at least. beerflow
The Reason Mike Vick was voted #20 is the same reason nobody (media and fans) said one word about Big Ben's (4 sexual assaults)during the Rigged Superbowl this year. Had the Eagles made it to the superbowl, all they wouldve talked about was 'Vick's past of dog fighting'!!! Anyone who is real, knows its all part of racist Amerikka!!!! White men get a automatic pass, while black men get made out to be the boogey man!!!!(true story) Brown i osis
I have no issues with him being 20. People that hate him will always hate. He's a helluva athlete and may turn out to be a helluva QB. Gregory1
Brees, P Manning, Brady, Rivers, Rodgers, should all be higher than Vick. All are except Rivers gets slotted in the mid 20s. He should be the 2 QB behind Brady or maybe behind Rodgers at the 3 spot. Manning, Brees, Vick and the rest should all be further back.
This list is screwed up, it if full of offensive skill position players and very short on defensive players (unless you have a lot of sacks). Mayo led the NFL in tackles and came in at 62 but the 2, 3rd 4th and 5th in tackles will not crack the top 100. They will throw Ray Lewis in the top 10 with 2 sacks and 4 tackles for a loss. Greenway had 1 sack and 14 tackles for loss. Umenyiori will make it with only 48 tackles, Tulloch had 160 but isn't included.
Andre Johnson will get plugged into the top 10 but Mike Wallace won't make the list with 40 more yards receiving and 2 more touchdowns.
It is a joke,

I see this list as a Who Would You Want On Your Team list. Based on what they did in 2010, who are the best teammates in 2011? #20 sounds about right for Mike Vick. I'm not sure he can duplicate what he did in the first 12 games. Defenses catch on, coordinators adjust, and teams will make him play more like Rodgers or Rivers. Can he match their combination of passing and mobility? That remains to be seen. They've proven it. Vick has proven that he's exciting, and can run up points in a hurry if you don't defense his running ability properly.
Regardless of what the list says, the #1 guy in the league to me is Aaron Rodgers. And not far behind him is Clay Matthews. Darelle Revis has to be way up there, though I don't want his contract. Suh should be high. Pouncey is young, but I like him. I don't care so much who's at receiver. You need good ones, but you don't need Larry Fitzgerald or Calvin Johnson to go all the way. At running back, McCoy is good enough to ride to a Super Bowl, but he's made me real uneasy this off-season. Could be becoming a head case. armchairGM
PhillyD_ike and MRDope are both a bottle short of a six pack. The Mike Vick Experience should have been voted higher but big deal! The NFL Network has its own cast of haters (Peion Deion and more) and that doesn't affect Mike Vick in the least! GO MIKE VICK GO! The haters can't stop you and neither can the dog chow eaters/lovers. The NFL is stopping you and all the other players but hopefully it won't last much longer. Get ready Eagles! The MVP on your team that wears #7 is ready to take us all the way! Panthro2011
Tell that to the Bears, Vikings and Packers. Would you trade Ben Roethlesburger for Mike Vick. It's all on Reid now. He has a new defensive team coach, the best receivers in the NFL and the 20th, (20th!!) best players in the NFL. If he doesn't win the superbowl he will look like the dumb lineman he is when the team falls apart and all the home boys on thios blog start looking up all the excuse they made for Donovan cough, cough McNabb. Let the games begin. marioP
