Vick: Sigh of relief
Daily News staff
Eagles quarterback Michael Vick was plagued with four interceptions in Sunday's 17-16 victory over the host Cleveland Browns.
Vick completed 29-of-56 passes for 317 uards and two touchdowns. The interceptions nearly finished off the Eagles in their season-opening game.
"It was just stepping up and getting it done," Vick said in a postgame interview. "We had been through so much in the game – penalties and turnovers. But we got out of here 1-0 and that’s what’s important."
Vick said it was a sigh of relief to steal the win.
"I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t [sigh of relief]," Vick said. "Plenty of throws I would like to have back. I just fought through it. When we scored that last TD it was a sigh of relief.
"Late in the fourth quarter it was never frustrated. We just kept fighting. We just keep encouraging each other.
"I have responsibility to this team to lead them, not hurt them."
Vick talked about his lack of preseason snaps. "You can’t really simulate it in practice because it doesn’t count," Vick said. "We have to have these kinds of games to become a championship football team. They have a tough defense."
Coach Andy Reid said he took some positives out of the performance.
"Every game you can win in the NFL is a good game," Reid said. "We had too many turnovers and penalties. At the end, he [Vick] drove us down the field. I thought he was rusty. I thought it was important that he get back in."
We played the one team in the NFL that we could beat if we play like this. Every former NFl coach just went to work on their resume. Defense did look better, but that's not saying much. airbuzz- The defense gave up 9 points off of 4 turnovers. Richardson was held to 39 yards on 19 carries. What more did you want?
logicandreason - Amen to all your comments. That's why you're logicandreason.
Vick'll warm up.

Any time you can get a road win you take it. But how in the heck can we come into a game with one of the leagues best running backs, a defense that was 30th in the league against the run last year, a QB who took 12 preseason snaps and was prone to interceptions, and decide to pass it 56 times? I'm trying to stay positive, but that one makes me scratch my head. SanDiego_Phils_fan- A few years back the Birds played the Browns and Bengals who were rated 30th and 32nd worst against the run. What did Reid do? He had McNabb throw the ball 70 times. That when McNabb got benched, I believe, but that is Reid's mentality and he won't ever change. He played at pass-happy BYU for Lavelle Edwards. The BIrds could be playing a CYO team and Reid would still pass it. That could be the reason McCoy is so good: teams set their defense to stop the pass, leaving McCoy to pick up yardage when he does get the ball.

Reid should be a politician with how much he can Spin negative into positive CT Flyers fan
Absolutely will not happen against the Ravens. When's the last time you saw Rodgers, Brees, Brady or really any of the top QBs play a game this bad? Not gonna see the post season with play like that. Too much talent on this team to be winning games in the last minute against a DOG team like the Browns. At least Castillo can sleep good tonite. Andy...RUN THE BALL!!!!! iskabobpatel- Stafford tossed 3 picks in the first half.
logicandreason - All of those guys have had awful games. Not saying that Vick's in their league, but even good QB's need game speed reps to be sharp. The way I see it, they can't play any worse as an offensive unit than that and they marched it down for a last minute W. Things went haywire, but unlike last year, they broke right at the end. This game gives me an inexplicable feeling of optimism.

Reid has no clue. Has three workhorse RBs and throws 56 times with a guy who had just about no live game action since January. The guy is a buffoon. alwaysphil1- Tough to run when it's always 2nd and 20 after a bunch of bad penalties.

Ease up everybody! The defense is way ahead of the offense at the moment which is a good thing. Although the forced turnovers by Vic was a little disturbing, I really did not expect him to perform well at all because of the lack of preseason playing time. We will be fine, just relax its only the first game. Give him time! Short time! but give him time! sub21
Vick stinks...Vick should have had FIVE INTERCEPTIONS, plus a lucky fumble he fell on......if that Browns player intercepts Vick's easy interception that he dropped at the end, Eagles would have LOST, and everyone would want to ....Dump Vick...Start Nick. phil500- Guess what? None of those things happened and they won. That's all that matters. I didn't hear everyone complaining in 2010 when Brady had like a million throws in a row without an interception even though at least 8-10 SHOULD have been picked off. Do you know why no one complained? Because they WEREN'T intercepted! Just like the last throw for Vick WASN'T intercepted. Stop focusing on woulda, coulda, shoulda and focus on what actually happened. A WIN!!!!!!!!!
Penfold18 - Haha you didn't seriously just compare Vick to future hall of famer Brady?
