There must be some sort of hot-tub time machine in the training room down at NovaCare.
A day after issuing a statement that didn't sound much like it was written by him, Michael Vick appeared on the "Mike and Mike in the Morning" ESPN radio show Tuesday to talk about how happy he is to get a reworked deal from the Eagles, one that makes him the likely 2013 starter.
Clearly, Vick thinks Kelly's offense will involve him running the ball a lot, even though every time he is asked about it, Kelly goes to great pains to explain that isn't at all what the read-option is about.
"In 2006 I ran for 1,000 yards -- and it wasn't hard," Vick said. "The only thing you have to do is train. I feel like I can still do that. To what level, I don't know, but I feel like I can do it at a high level."
The 2006 Falcons went 7-9 with Vick running for 1,039 yards, by the way. That was the only season in which Vick has played 16 games.
Even if Vick running a lot somehow were to be regarded as a positive offensive development, as we all know, he turns 33 in June and was getting chased down from behind by defensive linemen in 2012, leaving aside the six games he missed with a concussion. But Vick, who has missed 13 games in three years as the Eagles' starter, doesn't see injury as any more of an obstacle than aging. His thought process hasn't changed a bit.
"You have to be very cautious and meticulous about what you're doing on the field, but not to the point where it takes away from your game. Once you start trying not to get hurt, that's when you get hurt," Vick said. "I think what I have to do is just go out and play lights-out football, and not worry about getting hurt. I think over the last two years, I was trying to protect myself, trying to be sure that I was out on the football field with my teammates, just putting too much effort into not being injured. When you do that, it slows you down just half a second. I think when you're able to just go out and say, 'today I'm going to give it everything I've got' and leave it all out on the field, that's when you have the most success."
Vick alluded to "a whole array of things that brought me back."
Toward the end of last season, Phillymag.com's Tim McManus asked Vick about Chip Kelly, and Vick replied, "you mean the Notre Dame coach?" On "Mike and Mike," though, Vick said: "I've watched (Kelly's offense) for a long time. And I've watched Oregon have success. I know that doesn't mean it's going to correlate directly to the NFL. I just felt change was good, and I'm going to take my chances."
Vick said he is "motivated to be one of the elite quarterbacks in the league again" but "it won't happen overnight."
He said he thinks he can play "another 4 or 5 years."
Geez we have the most negative writers in the country. They are BIASED, THAT IS FOR SURE.
Bunch of damn losers elijah29
I'd like some of that subsatnce Vick is taking, play 4 or 5 years, he should watch his film..... Bork
VICK SUCKS...Vick is an old washed-up PROVEN LOSER who has lost seven games in a row, including Vick losing 42-7 to the Giants in his last game...plus Vick will not even last three games in this college gimmick offense. jim35- Dude .... Please stop with the same cut n paste comments. I think everyone knows how you feel. Can you come up with anything original?

Vick fumbles A LOT!!....you sure you want to do that? You're better off helping Nick run faster than helping Mike fumble less. dxdifr
Vick & Nick & no good QB draft picks. Kind of makes you wish McNabb was still around, doesn't it?? bigdaddyG- If McNabb was still around, he'd be a has-been too just like Vick.
Playing Vick is a big mistake. They won't win enough games with him at the helm to please the fans. He'll have a few big games, but an equal number of dumbfounding losses. If...if...he'll be a backup, he could be an energizer, and the kind of guy who can take a team on a four-game winning streak.
You play/develop Foles. He is the best prospect available in the NFL or the upcoming draft. If Kelly doesn't like him come next January, then draft a guy high. At worst, Foles looks like a good backup for years to come.
Vick is never going to be the guy, anywhere, never going to be the passing/running combination you see in Kaepernick or Wilson. They have much better field vision, even at age 22. Vick is simply the most exciting guy the NFL has ever seen at quarterback. It's a different thing than winning championships. armchairGM
I actually see the Eagles trading Foles to the Chiefs (2nd or 3rd round pick which would be a good deal IMHO) and drafting a QB. Vick will start the first few games and almost be cannon fodder until the offense gets used to the new scheme. Then the QB they draft will step in (Just like McNabb did his first year). Everybody should just RELAX and let this play out...no matter who is the coach or the QB the Eagles are NOT GOING TO THE PLAYOFFS IN 2013...its a rebuilding year. abcdefg7
Top 3 QBs to win a Superbowl:
1. hmmmm
2. ah what about ...
3. and don't forget ...
I guess there wasn't any. Just G
Lights out football for Vick is when he gets trucked by the opposing defense... greenblood4200
Is Vick's interview being use by the people studying concussions in football players? AreaMan
how many more articles are we going to have about Vick, anyone who understands football (you writers dont) can see that out of Vick and Foles....VICK fits better into Kelly's offense. (Im NOT saying Vick is great) but he fits better. Now lets also keep in mid the year Vick had before the Eagles gave him the big contract and tried to change him into a pocket passer (which he is not). He played well for us and had a decent year. Kelly's offense will also give him that opportunity. Defenses wont be able to free rush Vick and will have to defend against the option also, Vick will be more mobile, Oline should be back and Vick will not be getting beat up every play...... This makes for Vick to have a better season, again not that he will be great but the best option we have currently and one of best options available as the draft and market for QBs is weak...... if you want me to write some articles for you let me know, tired of reading your opinions that make no sense kidrocco
Vick will have turnovers, mental mistakes and fumbles during preseason. Foles will start. We can only hope, for our hearts to once again care about our precious NFL seasons ahead. Vick starting would be like the Bengals taking Carson Palmer back and saying, he gives us our best chance to win, we think he still has it. peteike
