Vick Doesn't Need Tebow Waiting in Wings
Les Bowen, Daily News Staff Writer
Yesterday, when news broke that the Broncos were getting Peyton Manning, I texted Eagles general manager Howie Roseman. "When's Tebow coming?" I asked. Ha-ha. Hee-hee. Yuk, yuk.
Didn't get a response. Didn't expect one. Howie is, after all, a Florida alum. But really -- Tim Tebow, a 46.5-percent passer last season in his "breakthrough" year, running Andy Reid's West Coast offense? Lotsa touch passing and reading? How would that work? How did it work with Vince Young last season?
Yet, some folks on the internets today are citing the Young debacle as a precedent why the Eagles might pursue Tebow. This often happens in such cases, and the logic always eludes me. Let's say I buy a used car, and it turns out to be a bad investment, breaking down a lot and costing me a lot of money. Then, later, after I get rid of it, somebody is selling a similar car. Am I a likely potential buyer? Or the least likely buyer?
But all of that aside, this is Michael Vick's team and locker room. If the Eagles are going to win the Super Bowl next season, it is going to be behind Vick. If you paid any attention to Tebowmania last season, you know that Tebow has a huge gravitational pull. I already have a tweet from somebody today contrasting the "dog killer" with the "clean-cut, God-fearing" Tebow. We really, really, really, really don't need this, after every loss. Really.
I am not a Tebow "hater." I was thrilled to watch him beat the Steelers in the playoffs. Generally, I like it when somebody runs roughshod over conventional wisdom. But my view, Tebow needs to go to a place with a run-oriented offense, where he will start. Yes, the Eagles need a good plan if Vick should miss three games again with injury, but bringing the circus to town to camp out next to Vick's locker isn't that plan.
The Eagles WILL NOT win a Super Bowl with Michael Vick at QB! If Andy & Marty are such QB gurus, why not bring Tebow in and groom him for the position that will be vacant in no more than 2 years? The kid's a winner! Vick's a highlight reel that stops around game 10-11 because he can't stop himself from taking punishment in the previous games. The Vick Era, such as it is, is fast coming to a close. philasportsfan- Acquiring Tebow perfectly fits Neck Fatt's M.O.
Here's another grand opportunity for him to prove that he's smarter than the average bear, and that he doesn't just "look" like the average bear.
Oh you mean like ALL the other QB's the Eagles have won Super Bowls with? Silly me, I thought the Eagles have never won a Super Bowl with ANY QB. And a desperate reach for a guy who completes 46% of his passes and can't read defenses in an offense predicated on accuracy and reads is borderline stupid! kevmack- And that is diferent from Vick how? Vick can't read defenses probably because he can't see them. Vick's accuracy is spotty at best. What the Eagles need is a heart transplant, one that doesn't crumble in the 4th quarter. Maybe a little Tebow work ethic will rub off on Vick and he can prepare for games rather than his usual "react don't read" style.

les,mcVick and Tebow should get along good you know two chritians and everything,i think jeff lurie will ask Big Red to look into Tim Tebow to upgrade the eagles image and boost the fans support that has dropped behind the phillies, flyers even sixers, also Tim Tebow has a hugh upside 1-he will improve his skills 2-he is a natural born leader 3-he will never have any problems with the law 4-he's a winner 5-he's a team leader 6-he's not injury prone..he's worth a for trade assante samaul plus whatever else to make the deal..when was the last time mcVick beat the steelers in the playoffs??..MV=0SBs....wolf. wolf 4
They are both running QBs and running QBs dont win, have never won in this league. Tebow has a chance to become more of a passer, Vick at this stage of his career its too late. Sidewinder7
Les, what about the Eagles using the 15th pick to draft Ryan Tannehill as the QB of the future? Tannehill has the talent and intelligence to be a franchise QB. But he only started at QB for two seasons in college. He started out as a wide receiver. He's rough around the edges as a QB. But he could be an understudy to Vick for a couple seasons before succeeding an aging Vick as the next franchise QB. soulman386
Les,mcVick had a DreamTeam and was eliminated from the playoffs with 4 games left,Tebow had a weak team and made the playoffs and won a playoff game..i think with a coach that wants to coach him he could do well,he's a winner and a team leader...wolf. wolf 4
Tebow does have a huge gravitational pull, apparently. izzylangfan
REPLACE A RUNNING QB WITH A RUNNING QB! = SUCCESS! - just for competition i would be for it! might make MV actually worry that the QB behind him could and will replace him. plus he's a "good boy" osi is hurt boohoo

The reference to the "internets" was lost on this bunch.
FLYERS LOSERS FOR 37 YEARS!
Ok, question for all the idiots who WANT Tebow... If he was that good, why would Denver get rid of him?!?!?! He's a 2nd year player, he could be groomed by Peyton Manning(who's not gonna play 5 more years) and is a "natural born leader." Maybe Elway doesn't know what a good QB is... OR... maybe Tebow isn't worth it. macd41144
If the report I heard is correct that Manning's salary in 2013 will be *40M - yes 40M*, then this is really only a one year deal. AFAIK Tebow isn't breaking the bank, and no one is going to give up a high draft choice for a QB with a sub 50% completion rate. Who says he will be traded, besides sports writers trying to justify their paycheck? Only in Philly...
