Vick: 'DeSean Has Some Things to Think About'

UPDATE: An Eagles source tells Paul Domowitch that neither DeSean Jackson nor agent Drew Rosenhaus has told the Eagles that Jackson will not be at training camp tomorrow.

EARLIER: Amid all the good feeling from the end of the NFL lockout, it didn't take long for the first "uh-oh" to resound through the corridors of the NovaCare Complex today.

Quarterback Michael Vick, while asserting how glad he is to be back and how well-equipped he thinks the Eagles are for a Super Bowl run, acknowledged that he spoke with wideout DeSean Jackson yesterday. Vick indicated that Jackson, who has wanted his contract reworked for more than a year, might not be on hand tomorrow when players report to Lehigh.

"We're trying to figure out what's going to happen. Hopefully, he'll be here tomorrow," Vick said. "DeSean just has some things to think about and some decisions to make that only himself can make ... It's all in what DeSean wants. So, we're rooting for him, hopefully he'll be here, and I think he will."

The Eagles said they couldn't rework Jackson's contract last year because of restrictions relating to the expiring CBA. There's a new CBA now, you might have heard, but Jackson's contract presumably is far down a long list of priorities for the front office. Is the wideout unwilling to court an injury risk without a new deal? Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Vick, of course, is preparing to play under the terms of the one-year franchise tender he signed this spring. The Eagles have until Sept. 20 to sign him to a longterm deal, or they have to wait until after the season. The Eagles say they are allowed merely to franchise Vick again, under the terms of the new CBA.

"My focus now is going to be on football," Vick said. "I think everything happens when it's supposed to. I put that in solely the hands of God and this organization to make it happen. My main priority rigth now is to be the best football player in practice I can be ... let things happen when they're supposed to."

Vick said he "obviously would like to" stay with the Eagles longterm.

Would the uncertainty bother him, if he got to Sept. 20 without an extension?

"The only thing I'd be worried about is being 2-0" by Sept. 20, which would come after the games against the Rams and the Falcons, Vick said.
