Eagles running back Brian Westbook will work out again today as he makes his way back from a concussion suffered against Washington last Monday night.

"We're going to make sure he's OK to perform," Eagles coach Andy Reid said at his weekly day-after news conference. "We'll see how it goes this week."

The implication Sunday, after the Birds balsted the Giants, was that Reid was being extra-cautious holding Westbrook out of that game, and that he probably would play against the Cowboys this coming Sunday night, but Reid clearly wasn't saying anything close to definitive today.

Westbrook "woke up with a slight headache" Saturday, Reid said. He worked out without complications Friday following a battery of tests through the week.

Other highlights:

*Reid noted that rookie wideout Jeremy Maclin threw crucial downfield blocks on long touchdown runs against the Redskins and the Giants.

*Nothing of note on the other injury updates. Reid will see how Chris Gocong does, battling quad and hamstring injuries. Rookie Moise Fokou subbed for Gocong Sunday.

*DE Chris Clemons is OK with the shoulder sprain he suffered against the Giants, Reid said.

*Fullback Leonard Weaver's running ability is "something we probably need to use and to allow him to show a little bit more," Reid said.

*Reid acknowledged that TE Brent Celek is "having an impressive year right now," and said Celek is similar to Jason Witten, the Cowboys Pro Bowler the Eagles face this week.

I'm expecting them to take it slow with Westbrook and stick with the combination of McCoy and Weaver in the one back formations. It's working well. I think they'll keep going with it. They really don't need Westbrook anymore. Anything he can contribute is gravy.

The hardest part of this sort of injury is that everyone involved needs to defy their own hopes and snap judgments in order to make sure it's properly handled. Westbrook needs to tell himself that this is not just another injury to play through, and Reid and the staff need to tell themselves that the appearance of "okay" doesn't necessarily mean "okay". If the concussion is as serious as some doctors have been implying, then there can be no such thing as too much caution. Concussions are not like any other injury in the game, and the implications it could have on later quality of life are bigger than any game against the Cowboys. Get well, Westy. Not football well, but proper well.

Westbrook could not play one week after getting knocked out of last week's game. The NFL was in front of the Senate last week getting it's hat handed to them about the brain and neck injuries. Even if Mr. Piggy wanted to play Bwest, no way the powers to be in the league office were going to let it happen. He'll be back this week, and should be contributing again. I don't think he's done yet, injury prone yes, but not done.

Please don't be calling Westbrook "softybrook" since he's not playing through a concussion. Some fans here are just plain "dopes!"

B-West out seems to help Donovan keep an eye on ALL the players and stay in a positive flow with the Offense

I think considering treating this by keeping Westbrook out from a brutally physical sport for an extra week, when knocked out by an impact to the brain as "extra cautious" is a joke. Whether Westbrook knows it or not - it is likely that permanent damage was done to his brain. The symptoms may subside over time - until he gets another hot to the head. Sad, but true, as soon as his headaches go away, he will be trotted back onto the field like he is healed. And we wonder why these guys brains are so damaged when they get to be 50.

Can anyone tell me why Eldra Buckley was playing for only garbage time? With Westbrook out, I was really expecting some playing time for Buckley to see what type of stuff he has. Why does not Reid want to rotate McCoy, Weaver, and Buckley?

P1 Cowboy - why go out of your way to post on an Eagles story - let alone read it? Not only that - your QB is Romo the turnover machine. You'll see after we have a handful of sacks, ints and fumble recoveries who the better team is.

westy's days are numbered...cap casualty in 2010. If he gets hurt again they should shelve him for january.

Kind of funny that P1Cowboy brings up effeminate names about the Eagles. I believe it was that woman Tony Romo who was crying with his face down in the Lincoln Financial dirt at the end of the last Eagles-Dallas game. And oh by the way P1, after he dried his eyes, he passed out in the shower from anxiety. That's a fact. You need get him some pantyhose to keep the blood pressure to his head up.

P1 Cowboy, I have always wondered what this "America's Team" nonsense has been about. Can you please inform me what that is based on? Is it Superbowls? I don't think you are #1 in that regard. Is it the value of your franchise, because I think the Redskins are #2 and that's not great company to keep. Is it number of brainless hicks in faded Aikman jerseys? I would yield to you if that is the criteria. How about the Cowboys become playoff relevant before they become America's team.

Previous years I would be very worried how long Westbrook is out..BUT McCoy changed the game for the Eagles. He has shown he can do the job and get it done....P1 Cowgirl..I have the game circled. The Eagles aren't the lowly Seahawks or Kansas City. Can't wait. The Eagles are going to roll your team and that girl you have at quarterback..

P1..I think you are talking about the Cowgirls ending up in 3rd and missing the playoffs like they have been doing the last 10 years..Why break history??
