Thoughts on reaction for Vick
Daily News staff
Here on Eagletarian, the question was asked should Michael Vick be cheered or booed when he makes his debut with the Eagles on Thursday night against Jacksonville.
Of the nearly 1,700 votes at this hour, 60.5 percent said cheered and 39.5 said booed.
Two former Eagles now with the Jaguars weighed in on what they are expecting from the Eagles fans at the Linc in today's editions of the Florida Times-Union.
Said safety Sean Considine: "Those fans up there are very knowledgeable about the game. I think they're really gong to embrace him."
Added left tackle Tra Thomas: "I think they [fans] are going to be high energized. With Vick making his debut, the stadium is definitely going to be packed, and they're going to be riled up and ready to go."
A few other views from Jacksonville:
Wide receiver Troy Williamson: "I just feel like everyone needs to leave him alone and let him play."
Quarterback David Garrard: "I just want to see his ability to break the pocket and outrun everybody. I just want to see if he even has that same kind of speed. I'm sure he'll be a little nervous. But whenever you're nervous, you use your legs, and that's a good thing for a quarterback."
Defensive end Reggie Howard: "I think it's going to be great. He needs to get his feet wet back in the NFL. He needs to get acclimated to playing fast-paced football. I'm glad to see he's back in the league and he's comfortable with a team and that he's showing a lot of remorse for that, and now it's time to focus on football. It's time for him to get back into the groove of doing some of the great things that he did before all this dogfighting stuff went down. I wish him much success. I don't wish him any success against us, of course, but it's a good story and a good learning lesson that he went through. Hopefully, the rest of the world can learn from it."
As for on the field, the Jaguars are playing their third game in 11 days so the starters might not be in for very long. Starting linebackers, Justin Durant, Clint Ingram and Daryl Smith sat out practice Tuesday. Their status is unknown.
- JayButt69, Stallworth was already an Eagle. IDIOT! NFLdoofus, what are you...a Cowgirls fan? Shut up and get off of this site. Dweeb!
Philly fans are dumb enough to cheer anything wearing green during football season. I'm looking forward to the Eagles road games. Opponents' stadiums are going to go crazy if Vick takes the field. The eagles will have a terrible road record this season. NFLdoinks
ewright611 Maybe cos hes a little unhinged. Everyone thought Hitler was a great guy had a big following he did and yes I liken Vicks to Hitler, little encampments, torturing helpless souls, making money from them and torturing and killing them. Julie Kennedy

Right so you place a voting effigy in the paper and think that reflects the true feelings of people. I voted but only because I came across it by chance. I dont think that really counts. Julie Kennedy
Panthro - it has everything to do with the Phillies, that is why I presented my opinion. Obviously you are better at being a big guy behind a keyboard then a reader of my view. It's all about money, bro, and the money is going to the Bank, so to speak. Silly monkey. T3rdEyevisual
Panthro22, stallworth is suspended from football indefinitely. Most likely his career is over. He went through the court system, admitted his crime and was found guilty. The truth is that he made a terrible mistake and took responsibility. Regardless of all of that, his case is irrelevant to this argument. The Eagles signed Michael Vick, not Donte Stallworth. When they sign Stallworth you can get outraged. jaybatt79
filly10 r u a vegatarian dsoul- JG125, so I guess you didn't see the "60 Minutes" piece with Mike Vick admitting he was wrong, eh? Dummy! JayButt69, Donte has A LOT to do with this argument! He plays pro football doesn't he?? He was fined by the Commish, wasn't he?? Get a clue! What sport are you looking at? DUH! T1braincellvisual, just STFU! What you say makes absolutely no sense since this is not a Phillies site nor a baseball city! Go get your grind on "Thephillieswonand..." poster!
oh, and by the way, all the press on Vick, both local, national, message boards, newspapers, blogs, radio, etc, are all part of the Eagles plan to become relevant in the face of our WS Champion Phillies. The Eagles subscribe to the school of thought that no press is bad press. The tough part is justifying that while they are a winning team, and successful business entity, they are a PR nightmare. Every single off-season and pre-season since 2003 has been marred by some sort of frustrating controversy, from TO to Vick. It is always something negative with this team. I wish I was able to stick to football, but with the ever present controversy, especially here in Philadelphia, it becomes more about the controversey du jour, then the football x and o. It is tiring. Wake up. T3rdEyevisual
I support Philly 10. Problem is that we are desensitized to behavior that is outrageous after 2,3,4 weeks go by. His venom sticks. Bravo. Stick Vick in a pen with the same wild pitbulls he trained. T3rdEyevisual

I just want someone to steal the caplocks key from Philly10's computer...anyone?...anyone?... Grazman
bleedgreen, they were released on bail like anyone else who commits a crime in America. They will be charged with felony animal cruelty. Look it up d-bag. This isn't about Stallworth or the value of human life. If the Eagles sign Stallworth, Rae Carruth or Frank Purdue we can debate about whether they should have a murderer or someone who kills animals for food on the team. For now the debate is about Vick which is what my post was saying. Stick to the facts and stop trying to say "look at Stallworth. He's worse than Vick." because its irrelevant. jaybatt79
"if you got caught killing dogs in you back yard.. do you know the sentence you would get? nothing, you would get nothing, a fine and some warnings.. vick on the other hand serves almost two years.. is that justice????" where in there did you say he got 2 years for gambling exactly? looks to me you said he got 2 years for killing dogs in his backyard then asked if that's justice which is exactly what you said... man i must just not know this message board logic, people are supposed to read one thing and know that you meant another.. again, my bad Eagles10
jaybatt79: first of all i dont know what law books you are reading but there was an article on here yesterday about guys caughtfighting pit bulls and both turned themselves in and both were released this morning.. second, your right i shouldnt put vick and stallworth in the same sentence, you call it an accident.. he got drunk and took someones father, son, grandfather, husband... do you want to know what i did last year when my dog died? i went out and bought a new one... you and eagles10 should get together and have battle of brains!!! bleed green forever
eagles10: you have to be the biggest moron to ever post.. that was my point and i am glad you felt that you had to spell it out.. my point since you clearly didnt get it was that dog fighting is not illegal and that he went to jail for gambling.. no one on this sight has complained about his gambling problem.. they are crying over dead dogs.... GET IT YOU MORON.... bleed green forever
There's some real idiocy going on here. 1.)In PA as well as 46 other states if you kill dogs in your back yard you go to jail for a FELONY offense. 2.) Donte Stallworth has nothing at all to do with this argument. Either does people eating meat or wearing leather shoes. Vick didn't get drunk and accidentally run over the dogs one night. He also didn't hunt them for food or make dog skinned shoes out of them. He intentionally killed and tortured not only fighting dogs but family pets repeatedly over a course of 6 years as well as running an interstate gambling ring. Please make your arguments either for or against the signing without trying to draw some parallels that aren't in any way relevant. jaybatt79
i'm not happy about vick but i will still watch the birds. i'm not happy because of what he did to those dogs. dogs, humans, whatever, he tortured those animals for 6 years, then lied about it & only came partially clean after his boys flipped. i highly doubt he would have had a sudden epiphany & stopped realizing it was wrong. i have to question whether he is "reformed" or not because all we've heard is what his team has told him to say. jg125
"if you got caught killing dogs in you back yard.. do you know the sentence you would get? nothing, you would get nothing, a fine and some warnings" haha nice bleed green forever, the guy keeping score of a philly.com article blog discussion thinks Vick got sent to prison for killing dogs in his back yard. Genius, he pleaded guilty to and went away for funding a dog-fighting gambling ring across state lines. Either way, Dierte you win, bleed green forever says so.. Eagles10
I wonder how many people that are all over Vick for killing dogs are wearing leather shoes or have leather car seats or even leather dog collars for their dogs. Why is it ok to kill an animal for us to wear them as clothing? Shouldn't all animals be treated the same or just the ones we domesticate? wtphillies

wow dierte- 1 eagles10- 0 bleed green forever

haha Dierte you're awesome. your first post says "all of those who opposed the move gave up their tickets". Sounds like you're referring to everyone who opposed the move. How could I mistake that? My bad... lonewolf take care of Dierte for me.... Eagles10

in some cultures, people eat dogs!! get over it, and stop bringin your dogs into stores, leavbe them where they belong in a DOG house.... i dont need insurance for my pets either, i need insurance for my family.. where has society gone!!!!! fernhill424
Dierte- let me ask you something. I was and still am opposed to the Eagles signing of Vick. I will also be attending games this year. So this automatically makes me a hypocrite? Great logic there buddy. Did it ever occur to you that you can still root for a team regardless of not loving every move they make (like yourself). In your eyes, you either hate the Vick signing and means you have to also HATE and boycott the Eagles as well or you love the signing which entitles you to still love the Eagles and not considered a hypocrite?.. I hated when the Phillies signed Adam Eaton 3 years ago, does that mean I was supposed to then hate the Phillies and boycott them?.. i do remember you bashing Sheldon earlier this year for whining about his contract, calling him old and no one wants him and to shut up and play. so if you cheer him this year then you're a hypocrite as well... Eagles10
i have a question for all you vick haters... if you got in your car drunk and killed a man, you would serve 10 to 15 on vehicular homicide, stallworth gets less then a month and a one year suspension.. i think the 15 million he got last year should hold him over,..if you got caught killing dogs in you back yard.. do you know the sentence you would get? nothing, you would get nothing, a fine and some warnings.. vick on the other hand serves almost two years.. is that justice???? bleed green forever- I guess moniker "The City of Brotherly Love" goes right out of the window when you Vick-haters talk. Listen you fools....THE MAN SERVED HIS TIME! How many times must that be said? Philly10 and joannd2 should serve time IN JAIL and then see if they can be so cold hearted after. Let the man play and contribute to the team. So what he killed some dogs? That's over! OLD NEWS! The Commish trusts that he is reformed. Get over it. He's now an Eagle!! Move on people!!!!
lol...philly 10 and jo-ann..u people acted like he held underground fights with human beings. Human life is wayyyyyyyy more important that animal life trust me..maybe u two should marry each other and have dogs as kids..u two need a life..maybe u two can entertain each other, so sad to see grown people (if u guys are even grown)act like 5 year old kids. You are entitled to your opinion, but just because it is your opinion doesn't make it a fact. remember that. Go Eagles!! (including vick) bigjay215
The media gave the perception that the Eagles fans were split over the Eagles signing of Vick. I was at the Linc when word went out and I was watching a reporter. They went out of their way to get a balanced opinion when in reality, the majority were for the signing. Just win! Go EAGLES! SayHello2MyLittleFriend
I'm intrigued by the OJ-esque response that people are giving Vick. Let's see: He got caught, check. He went to jail, check. He lost more money than most people will see in a few lifetimes, check..... YET, people want him to suffer more. And I haven't even touched on how he and his family are basicly going to have a bullseye on them as long as he walks the earth. I think for killing dogs, that's a pretty steep price to pay. I'm just saying. rabbititus09
This will be interesting. Please stop calling Michael Vick an animal. This insults animals who do not maim, torture and hang each other for fun. That being said, Karma will take care of Michael Vick like it took care of all the other Classless athletes who abuse their gifts and dismiss their Privilege as their Entitlement. Can't wait for a Dog Loving Defensive Lineman to break throught our weak Offensive line and smash his Face into the dirt and end his miserably wasted career. Adios Mr. Vick...It's been interesting. Nobody will miss you. Bob Frapples
I'm starting to think that Philly10 is really Donovan McNabb's mother. mikegdj
Boo the Eagles for giving him a chance....and wait and see....Is he different now...will he make amends......and can he still play....The jury is stillout in all areas .....except of course, the haters whohave nothing else to fill thier lives......think about it.....a football player consumes thier lives....sad nuggett
Hey JoAnnD2: Why should Vick get a "lifetime ban that he so deserved"? He killed dogs. He didn't harm a human. NFL players have harmed humans and didn't get a lifetime ban, so why should Vick? Brett Myers beat the brakes off his wife, but I bet you didn't want him banned from baseball. Or are you sympathetic to wife beaters? PhillyHouse JayDuce
@rwright611, I totally agree. Treat him just like all the other players. Philly10 and JoAnnD2, you guys should start dating. You seem like the perfect match. I can picture the 2 of you sitting at the Linc with your pink Mick Vick jerseys on and caught kissing on the jumbotron. massey1231- Great, he is looking at a house in my neighborhood, I can only imagine all the animal/PETA people that will be making headlines in Andorra. Tomorrow, he will get booed bad but he is still an Eagle, they will eventually go away. ZOSO
A question for PHILLY10 - would you be this upset if the Eagles traded for the rights to Donte Stallworth and he joined the team? SOFTFOAMEARPLUGS.COM

I suggest neither cheered or booed. It's too early to tell if he's going to turn his life around and too early to tell if he'll help this football team. Silence when he 1st enters the game would be the best reaction of all. SOFTFOAMEARPLUGS.COM
Maybe Vick can get his buddies to put a shock collar on Philly10 Phillies1120
If he plays well, cheer him. If he doesn't, boo him. Why should he be treated any differently? rwright611
Poor philly10....I tell ya, meth is just so destructive. mlr710
Michael Vick is a degenerate. No amount of prison time will ever make him a decent human being.Mr. Goodell should have given him the lifetime ban that he so deserved. JoAnnD2

Please stop picking on philly10. Can't you see from his writings that the boy is illiterate, ignorant and uninformed. Be kind to the mentally handicapped. obergruber
Philly10 - are we still tailgating before the game tomorrow? I picked up your Vick jersey you wanted although they only had your size in pink. see you then. vladamir

You spelled psycho wrong, psycho. Easy on the all-caps, tough guy. billerific
philly10, stop writing in CAPS. You are now guilty of torturing all of us. I'm pretty sure no one ignored what MV did. Why don't you drink some warm milk and take a nap. VTSweetG
