The McNabb-Jackson 'controversy'
Les Bowen, Daily News Staff Writer
The manufactured controversies between Donovan McNabb and his former teammates will quickly get old.
An Eagles player will be quoted, the quote will be relayed to McNabb, McNabb will respond. Or McNabb will say something, the quote will be relayed to an Eagles player, and that player will respond. Round and round it will go.
Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson appears on the cover of the most recent edition of The Sporting News. The headline reads “Missing McNabb?”
In an interview with Steve Greenberg, Jackson is quoted as saying he is “very happy with the decision” by the Eagles to trade McNabb to Washington.
“I don’t think we lost anything, even with McNabb being gone,” Jackson said.
That was relayed to McNabb during the Redskins’ minicamp this week.
“It’s so wild when people get to talking when you’re not there, but when you’re there everybody loves you,” McNabb said, according to the Associated Press. “So I guess people will go deeper into it than I will. I’m a Redskin, no longer an Eagle. I had 11 great years and I’m moving on with my life, so whoever may say things when I’m gone, more power to them, but it’s not making you look like a bigger man.”
Kevin Kolb also was asked what Eagles fans can expect from the pairing of he and Jackson.
“It’s going to be spectacular,” Kolb said. “With his talent and hopefully my ability to get him the ball in stride and yards after the catch, those types of things — it will be pretty special. I look forward to being around him and both of us being with this team for a long time.”
In our view, Jackson has said nothing disrespectful about McNabb. Jackson plays for the Eagles, and thinks they will be OK with Kolb. Stop the presses.
As is typical, McNabb doesn't get that DJax is just expressing confidence that the remaining players can gat the job done in spite of the loss of Mr Sensitive's considerable quarterbacking skills. Eddieboy
Seriously who cares dave54- He McNabb gone so he can run the huddle and be a demanding receiver. He's gonna run all over Kolb because he knows he can
- Wait till DeSean gets into the heat of battle with Kolb and his wealth of experience. Is'nt Jackson part of "The Vick Posse"? EZG1
Read the entire comment, he was just saying that the team will still be a contender this year. McNabb is gone, he needs to get over himself and the reporters needs to find another storyline. lostInPhilly

I must have read his comment wrong, didn't he say "...EVEN with McNabb being gone."? He's aknowledging that McNabb was a huge part of the team, but they will still be OK without him. Sounds liek to company line, and no disrespect to McNabb. I was and still am a huge McNabb fan, but it does seem like he took DeSean's comment in the wrong context. Or maybe it was presented to him that way since it seems everyone is hell-bent on inventing drama... Pheagles Fan
I don't see what Jackson said that was so bad. It's true. The Eagles are definitely a better team with McNabb. He had 11 chances to win the big one, and never got it done. He played in 4 NFC Championships and 1 Super Bowl, couldn't get it done. Just how much more proof does one need that he just isn't going to get it done? BosoxJohnny
Since Jackson hasn't accomplished squat as an Eagles and McNabb is the best QB in the history of the Eagles, a little respect might be appropriate. Where was Jackson in the playoff game against the Cowboys? Was he playing? The invisible man. I have no problem with him praising Kolb but to go out of his way to say they lost nothing by trading McNabb is idiotic. Apparently, he doesn't know that having experience as a QB is important and Kolb hasn't proven a thing. Let's see Kolb and Jackson actually acheive something before they start bragging about how great they will be for years to come. Jackson is one of the most explosive offensive players in the league? Really? What he does it the playoffs is the only thing that matters and he hasn't exactly been explosive. MikeP
Delaware Mike has it right. Desean has no media savvy or diplomatic skills (he also has no ability to get off press coverage, but that's another story). I heard Maclin laud Kolb's mastery of the offense on ESPN (insinuating the Eagles will be successful with him), while also applauding everything Donovan had done for the Eagles, and how Donovan is still a great QB. RESULT -- no controversy. Maclin is classy (I know of his background from living here in St Louis are) and will be a much better Eagles Ambassador. Desean is super talened but talks too much, sometime arrives late for Eagles PR appearances, etc. In short, definition of a punk. He's Freddie Mitchell with talent. To say we can't call Desean a punk of this website, and still be an Eagles fan, is crazy. If that was the rule then how did folks get away with slamming McNabb for years while he wore midnight green??? RocketC
Yeah, the dudes gone but he's still swoll. "For him to say that doesn't make him a bigger man". Does ANYONE even read thesportingnews anymore? They need a flashy story to sell that 5$ garbage. Rather buy a shortie and a cool ranch with that loot. "Its plain to see, you cant change me, cause ......." Onlineps2beast

You know, how was Desean supposed to respond? I don't know, maybe somewhere along the lines of "I think we will be fine with Kolb and expect great things from him. D-Nabb had a great run here but we are heading in another direction". Maybe Kolb goes on to be a HOF'er but who knows. Can you really say "we don't think we lost anything". The jury is out but the ceiling is unlimited for this kid. But he is still unproven. Nothing wrong w/ backing your guy, i get that. I wouldn't expect anything different. I just wouldn't have gone the route he did.... tbads23
It's just so wild how much of an idiot Donovan McLindros can truely be. Voytas
