Eagles trade out of first round

The Eagles just traded with Carolina and aren't picking in the first round, apparently.

Eagles trade out of first round

POSTED: Saturday, April 26, 2008, 5:14 PM

Wow. Lots of guys I thought the Birds liked on the board and they're out of the first round. Jeff Otah, a really good OT prospect, just went to Carolina with the Eagles' pick.

They're getting a lot, though -- a two (43 overall) and a four (109) this year, along with a one (yes, a freaking one) next year. I'd do that, too.

Another indication that this is the last year for 5 in Green and Silver.

Bet the quarterback is just thrilled with that one. Trading out two years in a row...anyone else happy with this?

Yeah, it was a good trade, but it doesn't help this year... that's two years in a row with no first round pick. When your running back is your leading receiver your team has a problem. They better look to get one of the receivers that's still on the board somehow...

Does this mean I can get off the couch now? Hard to fault them, and let's be serious -- that #1 from Carolina could end up being a top 5-10 pick next year. Here's what the Eagles have now: Round 2, Pick 12 (43) (From Panthers) Round 2, Pick 18 (49) Round 3, Pick 17 (80) Round 4, Pick 10 (109) (From Panthers) Round 4, Pick 16 (115) Round 4, Pick 32 (131) (Compensatory selection) Round 5, Pick 17 (152) Round 6, Pick 18 (184) Round 6, Pick 25 (191) (From Browns) Round 6, Pick 34 (200) (Compensatory selection) Round 6, Pick 37 (203) (Compensatory selection) Round 7, Pick 23 (230) (From Seahawks) Plenty of these can still be bundled if the Eagles see somebody they really like and want to move back up. Wouldn't totally rule that out. Then there's whatever happens with Lito, if that's still in play this afternoon. Justin King in the early-to-mid 2nd round, maybe?

So next year's #1 from Carolina will get on the field in 2010. Big deal! What do they have now, about 13 or 14 picks in this year's draft? Is it a rebuilding year and no one told us?

I can't help but wonder, is Andy sure that he will be here next year if the Eagles don't make it into the post season again this season?

Who wants to bet they trade the 1st rounder they just got when they're on the clock in 2009? Unbelievable.

Happy with what they got for trading out, but would like to see something done for this year.

well.....I'd rather they didn't reach if they really didn't like anyone on teh board...and they DID get great value.....but, still.

Honestly, guys -- who did you love at #19 from a playmaking standpoint? Devin Thomas is a nice player, but you'll find WR's just as good in the 2nd round.

The Eagles will trade their number one picks next year too. They did the same thing last year, taking Kolb with their first pick after trading down. They are too cheap to pay big time money to an instant impact player that wil help right away. Instead they'll look for the Stewart Bradley types that might prove to be a good bargain in the lower rounds. It's shameful.

there was no immediate playmaker for #5 at #19.

You got to love stock piling picks, especially what will be a high number one from a below average Carolina team. This years draft is somewhat weak anyway. I'd take the 2 and 4 if I wasn't happy with my position in this years draft, now we get that and a #1 in 2009. We're not building for #5 we're building for the E-A-G-LE-S Future. Plus he's healthy and can run again... : )

Well I guess they've decided that nobody can criticize your first round picks if you never take one.
