Source denies Eagles looking to deal Andrews
Les Bowen, Daily News Staff Writer
UPDATED: A league source told the Daily News earlier today that the Eagles have had at least one conversation with another team about potentially trading Pro Bowl right guard Shawn Andrews. However, moments ago, a source close to the situation said the report was baseless.
Messages left for Andrews and agent Rich Moran were not returned.
Andrews, who missed all but two games last season, signed a contract extension in 2006 that locked him up for 10 seasons, during which he will make about $35.5 million.
When Andrews missed the start of training camp last season with what turned out to be severe depression, there was speculation that he was unhappy with his contract. Moran denied that, but the speculation continued.
Team president Joe Banner told the Daily News earlier this week that the Eagles understand that paying close to $100 million to a pair of offensive tackles might make other players compare their compensation unfavorably; he said teams have to keep that in mind before making big moves, “but you can’t have your hands tied, and not be able to move forward.”

the only good thing about golf is that you get paid based solely on your performance (apart from sponsors that only sponsor you based on your performance). the nfl should seriously stop giving out multi-year contracts and just pay the players based on their previous year's statistics and the overall record of the team. all of these contract squabbles are ruining the NFL. players could really care less if they win or lose.. when you look on the sidelines after games and when the players greet each other after games, you wouldn't be able to tell who won the game and who lost. it's pathetic and makes college sports incredibly better - considering they have players who actually care about the team and winning - the NFL is only about the $$$, by both the front office and the players NovaWildcats36

Well you can forget Tony Gonzalez. The Chiefs just shipped him to Atlanta for a 2nd round pick. GoBirds77

Gees Les. Is this the kind of nonsense you have to post in order to drum up some interest in the column? Ticow021
Looks like Brookover has better sources than Les, or at least can get a response for an agent. http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/SHAWN_ANDREWS_IS_NOT_A_BIG_KID_ON_THE_BLOCK.html mbtoole
