UPDATED: A league source told the Daily News earlier today that the Eagles have had at least one conversation with another team about potentially trading Pro Bowl right guard Shawn Andrews. However, moments ago, a source close to the situation said the report was baseless.

Messages left for Andrews and agent Rich Moran were not returned.

Andrews, who missed all but two games last season, signed a contract extension in 2006 that locked him up for 10 seasons, during which he will make about $35.5 million.

When Andrews missed the start of training camp last season with what turned out to be severe depression, there was speculation that he was unhappy with his contract. Moran denied that, but the speculation continued.

Team president Joe Banner told the Daily News earlier this week that the Eagles understand that paying close to $100 million to a pair of offensive tackles might make other players compare their compensation unfavorably; he said teams have to keep that in mind before making big moves, “but you can’t have your hands tied, and not be able to move forward.”

Story seems a bit ludicrous. On a related note, I am getting sick of NFL players who SIGN CONTRACT EXTENSIONS, are all happy about it, then 4 years later complain that they were stiff armed.

Blatant speculation that was blatantly lifted from PFT's earlier report.

When these guys either don't play or stink up the field ( See Andrews and Brown), do they offer to return money? Of course not. They just don't live in a realisitic society

he's been in the league 5 yrs and missed 2. He's coming off a bought with depression and back injury (the worst kind next to knees) and he really is going to say something? I really can't believe these guys. Was there a bait and switch with his contract? did he out play his contract last year? He's didnt even play!

reveal the source or shut up. Waaaaaaaa. i am underpaid because I chose to take the security and the early payout. Get rid of Agents or provide them a code of ethics to work by. Who leaks this stuff? the agents do to get themselves (they DO NOT CARE for their clients). This is the same guy that ADVISED Andrews to take the security payment. This goes for you you too Sheppard. Disban the Players Union also.

Trade him to the Chiefs, they're desperate for some defense.

The NFL and it's contract non-sense is turning me off to the entire league and I think a lot of others feel that way as well.

"Earlier this week, there were rumblings that Shawn Andrews might be unhappy with his contract" - started by Les. Reported by Les. Now Les is beating the bushes following up phantom leads on a story he created. Draft is in two days - you can't be this hard up for stories.

what does he have to be unhappy about? he made more money than ill make in my lifetime last year for doing absolutely nothing last season. most people who don't show up for work - valid reason or not - are fired.

Gee, the Philadelphia Police out to be notified that Banner must have held a gun to their heads to force these players to sign contracts. The players should be griping to their own agents, who allowed them to sign these contracts, which, at the time, were probably good deals. Who can see into the future as to what the economical condition of the league will be in 2 or 3 years, and it should go both ways. The league has prospered recenlty, but will the cap come down in the next 2 years due to the recession. they sign a contract, so they should be man enough to live up to it. There is no I in HONOR.

It took Les only a few seasons after the switch to figure out that there was no penalty box at the Linc, and that the time really wasn't his, despite what Andy Reid kept saying. Les came to Philadelphia and the Daily News from Charlotte in 1983. In the intervening years, he has pretty much lost track of NASCAR, and his accent. For the last 10 years, he’s been a selector for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. A native of Wilkes-Barre and a graduate of Wilkes University, Domo started his career in Texas, working first for the Midland Reporter-Telegram (1976-78), and then for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, where he covered some god-awful Texas Ranger baseball teams.
