Sims beats the drum for pit bulls, Vick

New Eagles linebacker Ernie Sims loves dogs, especially pit bulls.
That love was clear when he hosted his first pit bull parade in Leon County, Fla. The event drew several hundred people and dozens of dogs.
"It's a different kind of love," he told WCTV. "I've got love for my mom. I've got love for my wife, but all those loves are different than the love I have for an animal. It's almost like they're helpless and always so kind and gentle. And they're always happy to see me. That's what I love about them."
Of course, the Eagles' most prominent connection to dogs at the moment is quarterback Michael Vick. Sims said he hopes to work with Vick on animal issues.
"I really want to get on the same page with him and assure the pit bull community that he really is trying to help our breed and what he did is in the past."

- Vick MAY have knowingly allowed a fellow felon associate at his party, or he may not have known and the guy was told to leave. No other conclusions can be drawn. Having the party? Eh. I don't see it is a great move but hard to see as a parole violation, in-and-of itself. Jim C.
"The envious die not once, but as oft as the envied win applause." ~Baltasar Gracian. Get over it!! He paid his debt to society, and while he's not the greatest starting qb, he's still better than any of you clowns...and Jeff Garcia. He'll be an Eagle this season! Wrong about Brett Myers, salt. Wrong. Weak. Sad. dasher
hey remy I am at work, how about you? and should we take someone named remyy serious?, I for the most part do not post comments but today I had to because Of all of you "PEOPLE" who want to bring a man down, for "killing a dog" or two he did his time get off his back and give him a break, to all the smart people on this site (i.e. Jim C, and Salt to name a few)sorry that I had to act like the rest of these dumb**s like Bex, give Vick a chance because I am not sold on the fsct that" baby arm" can get the job done. will69
wil69....We'll put the vick's transgressions aside for the moment...Vick was second to last in completion percentage 1 % higher than vince young, threw for 20 tds and 13 picks, all while leading the falcons to a 7-9 record.....his best asset was his speed which when i saw him sacked by a lb last year seems to be fading....case in point he is a crappy qb and an even crappier person, why do we need him mmmmrats
in 2006 that is mmmmrats
how am i wrong about brett myers. Did he not beat his wife or are u in denial? salt
first of all mmmmrats I never said vick was a great QB, and no he is not as fast as he was a few years back, but he is still faster than "baby arm" and with no upgrade on the o-line whoever the QB is they are going to need alot speed, beacuse the eagles do not run the ball, I am the biggest eagle fan you will ever find, I have been watching them since 1980 and I want my team to win the SB but after the moves the eagles have made in the last few years I do not see it happening, and Vick did take the falcons to a NFC championship game do you know who they lost too? How do you know what kind of person he is? will69
will69, don't get me wrong, I'm not assuming guilt. I made that mistake once by assuming Mike Irvin was guilty after being falsely accused. I'll wait for the facts to come in. I'm just saying that you can't presume his innocence or says he's guilty until the investigation is complete and it obviously isn't over. If there is no connection between him and the shooting then I agree with you. However I find that to be a stretch and the fact that he isn't smart enough to avoid situations where this type of thing can happen makes me feel that it really is just a matter of time. If that was me and I was in his situation I'd be home on the couch watching TV and the last place I'd be is at a party open to anyone that had any connection to his subhuman brother. With what he has to risk it's the same situation he was in before with risking his NFL career by getting involved with the dog fighting in the first place. Instead of thanking God he got a second chance [which I had no problem with] what does he do? Less than a year later he is in a situation where there is a shooting. This guy is obviously not a memeber of mensa. Don't you think it a stretch that this happened and he was there? I'll wait for the completion of the investigation but I have no faith he will keep his nose clean, not after this. tpizza

I agree with Servo. The issue is whether there's a probation violation by Vick. Ernie Sims may be a fan of Vick's but I'm not. I'd like to see the Eagles players acknowledge that he hasn't changed as much as he should have by now, and that it was ridiculous to give him a courage award. Does Mike Vick deserve to be the target of fans' anger about the world? No, there's about 6 billion of us who've done wrong, so the blame can be spread around. But there's nothing that says he's ready to be a spokesperson for animal issues, or to be a good QB. He's an interesting 2nd string QB with a checkered past, nothing more. His job in society is to sit on the bench and occasionally run an option play. He can celebrate birthdays around the dining room table and be glad he's not in prison. Take walks in the park and go to talks by real animal rights leaders. Those are the things he's earned. tacklinjoe

salt...let me spell it out for you...you are wrong in assuming I cheered for Brett Myers...you are also wrong in presuming that just because someone values the life and humane treatment of a pet, he or she doesn't also value the life and well-being of a human. dasher
tpizza some of that I agree with you on but it was a party thrown for him, not one that he set up his self and the guy who was shot should not have been there his parole officer should be checking on him, if I had spent anytime in jail I would not want to be in the house all the time and you would think that most people were there to have a good time, you remember when you turned 30 or 21 it is a speical time in your life, it was not vick's fault what happened, remember his last birthday was spent in prison trying not drop the soap. will69
