Springs is here! No, not spring. My frozen second-floor cold water pipe knows better than that. It's really, really cold for March, or any other darned time. But Shawn Springs, the corner the Redskins released because they always have to release a bunch of Dan Snyder's old favorite free agent toys to make room for his new free agent toys every year, is visiting the NovaCare complex.

The visit started today and will continue tomorrow, with a media availability scheduled for the afternoon. That probably means a signing.

What does this mean? Good question. The Eagles have a roster spot, with Lito Sheppard finally traded, but they just paid Joselio Hanson handsomely to be their nickel corner; hard to see Springs being happy with Lito's old role. Can he play safety? That would be good. He did have six sacks in 2004, so he has to be able to play inside a little, right?

Springs, 33, spent the last five seasons with the Redskins after beginning his career with the Seattle Seahawks (third overall pick in the 1997 draft). Springs has 32 interceptions and has been selected to the Pro Bowl once.

BTW, in case you hadn't noticed, Tra Thomas has not signed with the Jags. That doesn't mean he's coming back here, though.

Springs has always been mentioned as a candidate to play safety during his year's in Washington. He has said he'd be willing to play there, as well. Perhaps this is the plan? A modest contract to offer insurance for the young Demps?

BOOO this. I thought we were going in a youth movement. He will be 34 this year and we just let Dawkins walk at the age of 35...what are they thinking with this. DONT DO IT. Get the trade done for Bolding or Holt and lets move toward the draft.

Hmmm? Our older guys are not worth resigning, but Springs is? Here's a guy that can never stay healthy, misses games all the time for injuries that the Skins' brass felt he should play through and he's old. If he was young, he'd be Lito.

The front office didn't think Dawkins would leave and now we're scrambling for a replacement since we don't think Demps is ready for the full time gig yet. I'm thinking we're trying to get Springs to play safety since Sheldon Brown has already expressed displeasure at being moved from corner to safety.

Sheldon Brown actually said he'd be willing to play safety. Not sure what you're talking about simplesilence. Now, Springs has said the same thing, and he's not as good of a corner, so it would seem to make more sense to move Springs.

It's a new soap opera called "The 1980's Eagles". It stares Jeff Lurie as Norman Braman, Any Reid as Rich Kotite and Shawn Springs as Izel Jenkins. It should be an awesome show for the next few years.

This is ridiculous. How can anyone applaud this?? The Eagles ARE scrambling now to find a replacement. At least I hope they are. Do you honestly think they sat down at their post-season meetings and said "I have a great idea. Let's let the heart and soul of our team leave without a decent offer, then we can replace him with a guy that's almost his age and has never played safety before. That will get us closer to the Super Bowl!" ugggh. If this happens i'm gonna start projectile vomiting all over the place.

Hells yeah! Bring in Springs and move Sheldon to safety, I love it. Bringing Springs into Jim Johnson's scheme is at worst a lateral transition from Brown, and now that Dawkins is gone, Sheldon is our resident professor of jaw-unhinging hits. Why didn't anyone think of this earlier?

IF EAGLES FANS AS A WHOLE AREN'T SMART ENOUGH TO SEE THE FRONT OFFICE IS CAUGHT WITH THEIR PANTS AROUND THEIR ANKLES, WE'RE NOT AS SOPHISTICATED AS EVERYONE THINKS. IT WOULD MAKE ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE TO BRING IN SPRINGS TO PLAY A NEW POSITION AT 33 WHEN DAWK IS STILL TOP 5 IN THE LEAGUE AND WAS ALLOWED TO WALK. HERE'S THE SCARY THING...THE BIRDS USED TO LOOK FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE IN THE CAP ERA. BUT $40MM STILL UNDER THE CAP AND BRINGING SPRINGS IN RIGHT NOW IS JUST ABSOLUTELY CHEAP. MAYBE THAT'S WHAT THEY WERE ALL ALONG...
